    Sometimes you have to drop ideology and work on a tangible solution. The war was lost before either of us was even born. So we can sit here on our moral high ground and demand the situation be rectified or realize that we really dont have any ground to stand on. Much like adultery I find abortion morally wrong but for all practical purposes it should be legal

    File me under "I don't get it." The Republicans had control of the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary, all at the same time, for six years. What did they do about abortion? Anyone?

    And yet this thread is all about how we dare not vote for the dusky Moor because he wouldn't fight abortion. Does this make any kind of sense?

    Look, if you want to operate in the real world, and not in absolutist fantasyland, then you need to focus on reducing abortions, not outlawing the procedure. Please note that "abstinence only" education led to a rise in unwanted pregnancies. Let's try to be practical about this issue, shall we?

    Oh, and now there are McCain people saying he doesn't want to overturn Roe v. Wade. Who knew?

    Going back to 1999, John McCain did an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle saying that overturning Roe v. Wade would not make any sense, because then women would have to have illegal abortions.

    I have no idea why abortion is such a big issue on a federal level. When I vote, stupid stuff like gay marriage and abortion are the least of my worries.

    It kind of scares me that people care more about this stuff than things like the federal reserve, our regulation in the banking sector, missile defense, etc

    People didn't really understand what overturning Roe would do. McCain has corrected that position.

    Roe was a bad decision and anyone who believes in democracy can see that to overturn it doesn't make abortion illegal - it just defaults the laws to applical federal and then to the States themselves until we can work on a middle ground. It is a false arguement to say that an overturn of Roe is the same as making abortion illegal.

    Roe was a cynical decision because Europeans managed to figure the issue out so that it left the spotlight - while American justices believed U.S. citizens were incapable of legislating a mediated solution. They put their belief in democracy on hold to satiate their fascination with judicial activism. That first decision is why you will suffer people like me until you help rectify the situation. If yuo want to stop hearing about it - help us overturn it so that our laws can look more like European ones.

    First off: I'm pro abortion up to I'd say 20 weeks. My enthusiasm does significantly drop off after 12 (c'mon! 3 missed periods - isn't this a slight clue???)

    But what is the logic of these extreme end of pregnancy abortions being legal?
