People didn't really understand what overturning Roe would do. McCain has corrected that position.

Roe was a bad decision and anyone who believes in democracy can see that to overturn it doesn't make abortion illegal - it just defaults the laws to applical federal and then to the States themselves until we can work on a middle ground. It is a false arguement to say that an overturn of Roe is the same as making abortion illegal.

Roe was a cynical decision because Europeans managed to figure the issue out so that it left the spotlight - while American justices believed U.S. citizens were incapable of legislating a mediated solution. They put their belief in democracy on hold to satiate their fascination with judicial activism. That first decision is why you will suffer people like me until you help rectify the situation. If yuo want to stop hearing about it - help us overturn it so that our laws can look more like European ones.

A shift to the centre, if you will? Why can't Obama get away with the exact same excuse...?

First off: I'm pro abortion up to I'd say 20 weeks. My enthusiasm does significantly drop off after 12 (c'mon! 3 missed periods - isn't this a slight clue???)

But what is the logic of these extreme end of pregnancy abortions being legal?

Alright, let me preface my post by saying I am undecided on third trimester abortions (though leaning illegal except in the usually excepted cases - ie rape). I believe that the rationale behind it is the same as the rationale behind being pro-choice in the first place. Regardless of the age of the foetus it is still undeniably the woman's body and her reproductive rights. Hence, the woman still may do as she wishes with the foetus because it isn't anyone else's right to do so.

Something I've noticed from what little I see of Obama in the UK news is that he doesn't seem to talk with much respect to women. He always seems to be calling them sweetie or something like that.
At the end of the day politics is just trash compared to the Gospel.

Some people didn't like it and took it in a way that was not intended...

I take that as a personal insult. As a Catholic, I find the lack of chivalry shown towards women these days disgusting.

    I blame feminism.

That is a bigoted and baseless statement. Are Catholics particularly known for their misogyny in Australia, more so than the general populace?

Some of the logic behind it is when a pregnancy goes bad, and the best way out for everyone is a late abortion.
