Thread: Strategy map resolution problem

    Default Strategy map resolution problem

    I've recently re-installed MTW after a long period of the game collecting dust on my games shelf. I had some problems with CTD on the strategy map that were fixed by peter_de123's post in the sticky thread, but I have another small problem.

    I can change the resolution on the battle map okay, but when I change it on the strategy map it keeps reverting back to the default when I start the campaign. The test display mode doesn't appear to work very well, it just flashes up the MTW splash screen for a fraction of a second when testing both the battle and strategy resolutions.

    Does anyone else have this problem and/or know how to fix it?

    On a related note, does anyone else play on a widescreen monitor is there anyway to get widescreen resolutions, by way of a mod or something, or else a way to play in windowed mode?

    Thanks

    I have a wide screen monitor and have had no problems. Unfortunately I don't think you can get a wide screen resolution.
    What, you never seen a Polock in Viking Armor on a Camel?

    Default Battle map cursor problems

    It's weird but it was only happening on the campaign tutorial map, I was just using that to test the resolution change and it kept knocking down to the default. However when I started a full campaign it was fine.

    That's only the start of my problems though, on the battle map the cursor doesn't appear to do what it's told, it's fine clicking on buttons and the unit banners but when I click on the ground for a unit to move there it moves to a different position. It seems to be around half a screen closer to my POV, so if I click on somewhere in the centre of the screen the unit moves to right in front of my POV, not where I clicked.

    I was trying to do the tutorial again and because you have to click on the flag at the beginning to progress it doesn't let you do anything else, instead I get a very irate Sean Pertwee (the general) shouting insults at me!

    Can anyone help?

    Okies, you might want to visit the following thread and check out post #166: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=69367

    What you are encountering is called the mouse-over bug. Things in 3D space are not matching up - your unit is in one location, but a conflict is causing the computer to think it is somewhere else. If none of the solutions in that thread I posted help you, then you have one of three choices:

    A) Give up playing MTW (yes, I have to throw that one in, as unfortunate as it may seem, because some people do go with that option);
    B) Auto-resolve all battles;
    C) Improvise. The radar map still works properly on the battlefield, so that, together with a modified GroupFormations.txt and inventive use of pausing and cancelling group formation orders to specific units and re-assigning movement options to others, will allow you to play battles. Might be a bit more tedious and difficult, but it most certainly is do-able. And it's the best solution for those who can't find any other solution (and to think, I called the first choice in this list a choice! ).
    I believe in a society without rules, laws and regulations. A society where there are only ideas - strict ideas that must be followed to by the letter - and any failure to comply is punishable by death. This would be no dictatorship or police state, no one would be living in terror. It would merely be a 'reassessment of one's preferences,' people living in 'not-so-optimistic security.' So, welcome, those who are 'longing to be blindly obedient and loyal, unbeknownst to them.'
