Thread: Carthage Question: Sacred Band vs. Elite Liby-Phoenician Infantry
Kasrkin519 17:49 08-14-2008
Hey

I've been enjoying my Carthage campaign recently but I've got a question regarding the Sacred Band and the Elite Liby-Phoenician infantry units.

Both these units seem identical in almost all respects:

Same Stats
Same AOR
Same Numbers (well, one is one larger i think)
Same costs

The only significant difference is that the Sacred Band has a higher MIC requirement.

I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this and maybe the reason behind it. It just seemed a bit odd that a faction would have two identical units, with just a different mic level, and their visual appearance, to separate them.

Is there any reason to use one over the other besides visual preference?

Sacred Band are Carthaginian citizens.
Elite Liby-Phoenicians are - indeed - Liby-Phoenicians...

Is their any reason to use spear unit A over spear unit B apart from chosing to have both in your army, to make it a balanced army or to represent the whole population of your empire?

It's to represent the historical units. Evidently the liby-Phoeenician Elite and the sacred band were basically equal in terms of strength, so there stats represent this.

Aren't the sacred band infantry the ones that use the sarissa phalanx formation in the game while the elite liby-phonetician are the ones using the regular hoplite phalanx formation?

I think that's the major 'game mechanics' difference - not sure about history though

no, they both use classical greek phalanx ingame.

my question was angled more towards the gameplay reasoning behind their same-ness (a la shouldnt one be weaker and cheaper and one be stronger and more expensive) but since it was done more for reasons of historical accuracy i understand.

thanks for answering
