Default Some unit stats dont seem to make sense....

    Hi all,

Recently started a new Macedonia campaign and absolutely loving it

    Just a question though...

I've recently recruited some "wild men" infantry in Asia minor to help me mop up whats left of the Greek city states very tough looking and sounding unit although I have yet to use them in battle.

But they have an attack of 13. Which seems high enough yet other less elite or tougher units have a higher attack rating like some levy hoplites + even some skirmisher units... all be it heavy skirmisher units, still those stats just don't seem quite right...

Is there more factors that effect a units ability to smash through an enemy unit other than there attack stat?

this is EB mate, u might as well disregard half of wt u see on the 'stats at a glance' page. i personally think the written historical description tells you more bout the unit than those silly numbers.

IIRC, part of the confusion concerning stats is that the EB team figures in the spear bonus vs cavalry and the "swords vs spears" bonus (hardcoded from vanilla RTW) into the attack stat when designing unit stats, and that tends to make the raw stat data look kind of funky "on paper".

Also there's a stat that's not shown on the unit description : lethality. It represents the odds of killing the enemy when the blow lands. Swords have higher lethality than spears, so you shouldn't take the attack rating as the only criteria for comparing units.

the problem however is that the attribute that gave that -4 attack vs swords was removed before 1.0 was released and replaced with one that gives -4 to defense skill...

Wild Men = Tindonatae = Galatian equivalent to Gaesatae.

These guys are a distinctly special case.
maybe those guys should be doing something more useful...

I though it would be something along these lines...

They have a lethality of 0.225 instead of a casual 0.1 to 0.13. So that's about twice the amount of a normal unit.
Combine this with two HP, instead of 1. Combine this with high morale and the scares enemy infantry attribute and you' ve fot quite a nice infantry unit, to say the least.
