Thread: Is there a mod with a small campaign map?

Question Is there a mod with a small campaign map?

Hi, I've been playing Rome: Total War for awhile now, but once my empire gets pretty big, it gets irritating to move armies all over the place, etc. etc. Finishing the game just takes too long, and I start to micromanage way too much. Is there a mod with a smaller campaign map? Something along the size of Shogun or RTW's prologue? I love the strategizing and all that, but I don't have the time to finish the whole RTW campaign map. A good story would be nice too.

I know, I know, I should just not micromanage, but I like to pay attention to details. I find I'm not really even getting to know all the routes through the mountains, the ambush spots, etc. It would just be more fun for me to have a smaller scale game. Anything like that exist?

I actually prefer smaller maps too, though I am not sure which Roman-era mods have small maps. Most mods (often unwisely imho) tend to go for the thinking that bigger is better. "Gods & Fighting Men" has a small map (Ireland and the Isle of Man) but is set about 700 years before Rome even existed as a Kingdom

More mods with more focused campaigns would be a great thing.

Oh, just remembered, RTR has it's Iberian Campaign which is a small map - and that is Roman era.

Yes, there's a great Sicily map that is just a provincial campaign. It doesn't change any units or mess up any files, it just allows you to play on a different map. It's a more in-depth map of Sicily, with Rome, Carthage, and Greece competing for the land.

I'll look for the link now. What patch do you have? I'll post the link to the 1.5 version of the map.

Also, if anyone else knows of any games that are just provincial campaigns, I would very much appreciate it. It's nice being able to break away from the autonomy of the Imperial Campaign, but not have to go through the trouble of downloading a full-scale mod.

EDIT: Here's the link for the map, made by Spoonfrog that is playable with RTW 1.5:

I hope you like it, I do so far.

They also give a gaming improvement as with mods like Lycan Rising the AI performs better with less than 10 factions. Ironic as RTW was obviously built for the huge campaign but performs much better on a small map with few factions.
