So I've heard that temples that offer moral bonuses no longer work. Is this true?
Yes, they no longer tell stories which are designed to teach a lesson.
edit: that was sarcasm, because you mean moralE not moral, which is the point, or lesson, of a story.

I've got the impression that they do work.

How does he know? How does one check the morale value of a unit?

as far as I can tell you cant!!!! But you can see it in the EDU. Im not sure how the engine would keep track of all the units with morale boosts without marking the unit or unit card!!!!!![]()
This is interesting and begs the question: Do any buildings that claim to grant morale bonuses actually do so? Perhaps I will test this by giving one building a morale bonus of, say, 20, and seeing if it makes a unit impervious to routing.
Or we could wait till an EB member comes along and answers all our questions. But where's the fun in that?

In times long gone, back in the days of vanilla, I gave the Spartans a morale of 100 in the EDU. It was pretty fun, needless to say... It was truly a choice between going home with their shield or upon it.

I raised this question a while ago and the general concensus was that it does not work for morale, however if it does work I was led to believe that it only applies to the province where the Temple is. For, example if you have a temple of Mars in Rome giving +2 morale it will only apply to the units whilst they are in that province, hence almost impossible to check!

Yes, it probably doesn't work. And if it does, it only works in very few occasions.
So everybody thinks it doesn't work, but nobody remembers how that conclusion was reached? While you are probably right, this is starting to remind me of urban legends.
Experience modders have tested and tried it out in the past and they came to this conclusion. If you look for it, you'll find it in the scriptorium. It's common knowledge in the modding circles. Noone has ever come up with an indication that it worked, only the contrary. It's like doubting the fact that only one specfic straight line can go through 2 certain points, no more, no less. Has everyone aver gave difinite proof, no? But everybody knows it. With only the same evidence, nobody ever succeeded in drawing a second line that went through the same two points.
Believe me there's nothing urban legend about it.
I searched the scriptorium, and found only two passing references similar to those in this thread.
It's a conspiracy to make you build the wrong sorts of temples.
I say build a temple that increases trade income if you actually want it to do something useful

hmm.. have to burn down a lot of temples then to replace them - interesting point for roleplaying though -
I use the morale/war temples as war colleges, where I send my young generals in the making to go study. The morale temples allow the acquisition of traits and ancillaries that improve your generals, so that's why i sometimes build them.
lol i thought that was kinda funny, a smart comment from a "dumbass" hahaha
