shlin28 11:56 08-22-2008
What did everyone get?

Because I am only in Year 10, I only took some modules and an optional extra GCSE this year... here are my results:

IT Short Course Test Paper retake: went from an A to A* (77/80)

Biology module 2: 98% A*

Chemistry module 2: 100% A*

Physics module 2: 100% A*

and an optional Chinese GCSE: A*

they say that grades have slipped two places since the late eighties, so given that i did mine in the mid nineties i will only factor in a slip of one grade. therefore:

Biology = A*
History = A
Geography = A
Eng Lang = A
CDT = A
Physics = B
Chemistry = B
Maths = B
French = B
Eng Lit = C

So a modern pupil can never beat one from the 80's who has an A ?

They some very good results, especially considering your only year 10, but what happened in biology only 98% ?! too much playing about not enough studying !!

but seriously congrats on the results, will we be seeing A*'s in the rest of your subjects next year ?

just incase anyone was intrested my results were

Maths = C
English (langauge i think) = C
Science = D D (double award so 2 grades)
Also E and F in I.T and English Literature, can't remember which goes with which.

This was back in 2002, so i figure at least half of them are the equivelent of A's now...

Im in the process of replacing these with qaulifications on an access course to get into university, which is a similar level of qualification to A level, my grades are a slight improvment

Module name Level Credits

futher maths 3, 3 3, 3

Maths (core) 3, 3, 3, 3 2, 2, 2, 2

Mechanics 3, 3, 3 3, 3, 3 (it only has 1 3 under credits but im sure its 9)

Physics 3, 3, 3, 3 3, 2, 3, 3 (could have got 3 credits instead of the 2, this one wasn't much of a suprise as it was an essay, and i suck at essay writing)

Statistics 3, 3 3, 3

Study skill 3 2

Apart from the essay which i got a level 2 for instead of a level 3 that is the top marks i could get, Im hoping to re-do the essay next year and i will be finishing the study skills module as well as doing introduction to programming, website design and possibly something else....

I think the credits at a certain level are converted to some kind of points system, and you need a certain amount of points to get on paticular courses, i haven't actually figured out how many points i need yet, though im probably going for something like Applied Mathmatics..

Maths: A*
Double Science: A* A*
Business Studies: A*
English Language: A
English Literature: A
Spanish: A
History: A
PSR: A
Art: C

I kinda gave up on art...

Yeah... I'm struggling at art too, only barely scraped a B on the last project... (The teacher stills thinks I'm an A grade student, but I don't think its gonna happen )

and wow you take far fewer lessons than I have to... I gotta take first the core subjects (English, Maths, 3 Sciences), then RE short course... PE short course... IT short course... and they are all compulsory!!! and then 3 optional subjects, then a foreign language.

I did all of that too, except we only get two GCSE's out of our three sciences, despite having individual lessons for each, we don't get a GCSE out of PE, IT isn't compulsory but you have to do some lessons to learn it and you can do something else rather than a language, but almost everyone does one anyway.

As for art, I did one or two "A*" pieces but I barely did any work, after realising how much I had to do and how boring it was I just handed my stuff in about a month early so I could focus on other subjects, I probably could have gotten an A if I had carried on but it may well have lowered some other grades, I need time for the org too

What's the percentage bracket equivalent for a A*, A, B, C, and so on?

Reply
Ferret 13:53 08-23-2008
It depends on the subject but it's usually 70%-80% for an A* and 10% less per grade.

So what's 81-100?

Weird British system. In my days an A was 92.5-100
[edit]
That was the American system though.

I think its around 90% for an A*, but it changes every year because the exam boards only let the top *inser precentage here* of people get A* (or any other grades), at least, thats what my teachers told me.

I think its 60% for C, 70% for B, 80% for A and 90% for A*, that's on the higher paper though, the low-tier has an entirely different grades of it's own.

I'll get my results next year, although Shlins' (and plenty others) results are frighteningly high.

I meant the boundary started at 70%-80% and ended at 100%
