Wait, so you're saying EB II or EB I v 1.2 is going to have speeches in Latin or Ancient Greek? What's the point? Most to almost all of us (EB players) know only a handful of Latin terms/words and even less or absolutely nothing in Ancient Greek. I am sure the speeches will sound nice, but as I have already said almost no one will understand any of what the general is saying. It's much more fun listening to the English speeches. So are the native-language speeches are going to be implemented in EB II, EB I v1.2 or in both?

You sure you understand the drive behind EB?

    Didn't think so.

We will supply translations, and I believe that you can turn on subtitles for speeches (though I may just be making that up) in which case you would see the english translation (perhaps along with the latin transcript).

Splendid! I would rather hear a Roman general's speech in Latin, that is if I would actually know what he is saying due to the subtitles.

As for Sarcasm's comment, I do understand the EB mission of making RTW more historically accurate, but not to the point where you can't understand anything. I mean, seriously, who would want to listen to a person babbling in some incomprehensible language? It is interesting at first to hear a foreign language (especially Latin) and how it sounds, but it gets annoying very quickly if you cannot understand what the person is saying.

We are here to supply an education. Thus we will work in primary languages, but would never not supply the information necessary to take something away from that.

What a pleasant surprise. I have been pressing for this for some time now but was always dismissed due to the sheer volume of work it would take to perfect orations given in an extinct tongue. Balloons for everyone behind this.

There is no promise here, but they certainly have been worked upon and there is definately no opposition to them.

I know this is a bit off-topic (should be in EB II forum) and I have asked this before but didn't really get an answer. Are the improved speeches planned for EB II or will they also come in the v1.2 of EB I? I have heard that v1.2 will feature new voice recordings for Celts as well as other cultures, so why not the speeches?

Because the speeches aren't done yet, nor are they anywhere near completion. We have explained many times that elements such as the voicemods can and will be used by both EBI and EBII (Most likely as optional downloads, rather than completely new patches or installs, after 1.2). What 1.2 will contain, voicemod-wise, depends on what is finished when we decide to release it. The main area that the 1.2 patch will focus on is making the game more stable, voicemods can wait if necessary.

    BACK ON TOPIC! ;)

Yes, one of the first quotes in this thread is excellent:

Actually, the campaign script is a one-time script executed when you start the campaign. The EB background script is the one referred to in that quote.

I heard another one today but unfortunately I hit start battle before I heard all of it :(. The Roman general was talking about the Epiros faction troops as something like a latrine. Sorry I clicked start too soon and missed it.
