Don't tell me you took that command line as is. <RTW> of course means your RTW directory, such as c:\games\RomeEB. Like in every other thread where I've used it

and What is the function and difference between sp game edu backup and mp game edu backup?

Mine is E:\Cd-spill\RomeEBSvn\RomeTW.exe -mod:eb -nm -show_err -ne
I have no idea why yours won't accept it.

* Spaces in folders. Just don't do it.
* It's in Program Files. Why...
* The hyphens are placed wrong. The quote needs to end after the exe, not after the entire line.

Ah. How should I know? Anyways I corrected this, it was accepted. I deleted map.rwm in maps/base and in sp game backup. Then I started with my new working shortcut. Tried to start a campaign, didn't work. Quitted, new map.rwm was generated. Weighed approx. 6500kb in comparison to 7500kb of back-upped original. Copied new map.rwm into sp game backup. Started EB normally in Single Player mode. Tried to load my Makedonian save, ctded upon 2 seconds of loading screen.
Ideas? Yes I've made a backup of both map.rwm files.
Edit: I copied "corrected_regions.tga" from the RTW folder into the maps/base folder. That was the reason for the whole work after all, to save me the after battle ctd.

Hmm... Then perhaps it won't work with an ongoing campaign. Could you try to start a new one and see if that crashes as well? I've done the same procedure with the internal version and there it works fine, but I only tried to start a new campaign...
As for how you should know about the hyphens, I would presume you've come across this problem earlier with shortcuts using your space-infested folder names, or used any command line (DOS, Unix or whatever). Apparently not though.
Spaces, like non-US-ASCII characters, in folder names is asking for problems. At least the German version of Windows doesn't have spaces by default. Although perhaps it is just me having experience from the old days, where it led to all kinds of problems when I tried to use Norwegian characters.
The placement of games on the disk is I guess a matter of personal preference, but I prefer to not have them cluttering up the normal applications. Also having EB in Program Files is discouraged (by the installer, no less). Yes, it's Vista that has problems with it and you're probably doing alright if you have XP.
