Default Problem getting corrected_regions.tga to work

What does corrected_regions.tga do? Is the original one broken? I get increasingly often CTDs, after battles and especially at the "settlement captured" screen. Once I select an option, or even if I want to save and press the save-button, it CTDs. And I watch the statistics-scroll everytime, and quite intensively.

Lusted reported that the map_regions.tga apparently can contain some errors that the game tolerates. The game then creates a corrected_regions.tga that presumably has corrected these errors. One would think that the game would then use the corrected one, but apparently not, as since replacing the file, no post-battle CTDs ever occured in the mod in question.

The issue of the OP is part of the frequent issues, BTW.

Default AW: HEROIC VICTORY CTD - WTF?!?!

Didn't work for me. How do I run EB without Trivial Script? I opened the configuration tool, then pressed "Play EB".

    Maybe that's the reason, I could't generate a proper new map.rwm?

Make a shortcut with <RTW>\RomeTW.exe -mod:eb -nm -show_err -ne as the target.

Don't tell me you took that command line as is. <RTW> of course means your RTW directory, such as c:\games\RomeEB. Like in every other thread where I've used it .

what about alex.exe with same problem? I had twice so in third trial I chose not to attack and retreated to avoid a heroic victory CTD.

I deleted both map.rwm in both data and sp game edu backup.

what about mp game edu backup do I need to delete it too?

and What is the function and difference between sp game edu backup and mp game edu backup?

I know that and I did so. It won't take the funny commands at the end. I can't close the window with OK.

    * Spaces in folders. Just don't do it.
    * It's in Program Files. Why...
    * The hyphens are placed wrong. The quote needs to end after the exe, not after the entire line.

Ah. How should I know? Anyways I corrected this, it was accepted. I deleted map.rwm in maps/base and in sp game backup. Then I started with my new working shortcut. Tried to start a campaign, didn't work. Quitted, new map.rwm was generated. Weighed approx. 6500kb in comparison to 7500kb of back-upped original. Copied new map.rwm into sp game backup. Started EB normally in Single Player mode. Tried to load my Makedonian save, ctded upon 2 seconds of loading screen.

Ideas? Yes I've made a backup of both map.rwm files.

Edit: I copied "corrected_regions.tga" from the RTW folder into the maps/base folder. That was the reason for the whole work after all, to save me the after battle ctd.

Why no spaces in folder names? Btw it wasn't me who named that "Rome - Total War" folder, it was the RTW installer naturally.

Why shouldn't it be in Program Files? Every program is installed there and I didn't want to change this.

Hmm... Then perhaps it won't work with an ongoing campaign. Could you try to start a new one and see if that crashes as well? I've done the same procedure with the internal version and there it works fine, but I only tried to start a new campaign...

As for how you should know about the hyphens, I would presume you've come across this problem earlier with shortcuts using your space-infested folder names, or used any command line (DOS, Unix or whatever). Apparently not though.

Spaces, like non-US-ASCII characters, in folder names is asking for problems. At least the German version of Windows doesn't have spaces by default. Although perhaps it is just me having experience from the old days, where it led to all kinds of problems when I tried to use Norwegian characters.

The placement of games on the disk is I guess a matter of personal preference, but I prefer to not have them cluttering up the normal applications. Also having EB in Program Files is discouraged (by the installer, no less). Yes, it's Vista that has problems with it and you're probably doing alright if you have XP.

Done the same. Tried to start Baktria and Saka campaign, didn't work, got kicked back to the Single Player menu. Upon quitting the game I got this screen:

Then I copied the new map.rwm into sp game backup and started in normal Single Player mode. Tried to start Saka and Saba campaign and got kicked again. Quitted the game without failure screen.

Mmmh, so further knowlegde I can provide is only

    - I use corrected_regions.tga. After copying this into the maps/base folder and deleting map.rwm, I started the game via "configuration", and then "play EB". Dunno if this can make a difference. It worked all fine with my savegame. It did however not erase the ctd I got upon clicking "Occupy" when conquering Ariminum in the AI's turn. The map.rwm generated however proved to have a creation date of june, so I figured out that it didn't really worked.

    - I installed the four permanent fixes years into my campaign, not before starting my campaign.

My campaign is working though with the normally generated map.rwm and the corrected_regions.tga.

No, never, I always create my shortcuts with the pure browse funtion. I never cared about the hyphens and thought them completely irrelevant even.

Well I use spaces, ä, ö, ü, ß, ñ and accents for almost every folder, and never had any problems. I can use Greek letters even.

Assuming you have the shortcut bypassing the Trivial Script set up properly; you should try:
    (1) run EB;
    (2) when you get to the main menu, ALT + TAB to your desktop;
    (3) locate the 'fixed' folder in your EB build
    (4) delete map.rwm
    (5) load up a new campaign or the old one
    (6) copy the newly generated map.rwm file from the 'fixed' folder to your sp game edu backup folder.

That's probably because it isn't using the corrected_regions.tga, it's only used when map.rwm isn't present. Perhaps you should try to delete corrected_regions.tga and then run the game with the old map_regions.tga. Then a new corrected_regions.tga should be generated and you can copy that one over. You may have an old corrected_regions from whatever version.

No, it is put in the RTW folder, actually, regardless of which mod it's running. Come to think of it, he may have a corrected_regions from Vanilla, that would certainly cause the problems he's seeing. Anyway, do what I said in the previous post and it should get better .

There is no problem in getting corrected_regions.tga to work, really. Just rename it to "map_regions.tga" and all will be fine.

I'm sorry for the incovinience. That "detail" didn't come to my mind. I renamed it and it all worked. I didn't exchange the descr_strat, I don't know if this is necessary now that the error has been discovered.

    Sorry, really.
