Try out Baktria or do a KH campaign. both are pretty challenging and require skillful use of your starting army to survive the first 20 years. once you consolidate your position you can push forth and steamroll your expansion. KH would is interesting because when if you are forced into a drawn out war with both Makedonia and Epiros, Rome has a chance to expand their power and will usually expand west killing off the Gauls and Spaniards. all 3 of my KH campaigns resulted in huge east med vs west med battles, with lots of naval battles for control of the Med. so if your into dogged scraps KH is the choice for you.
if you like tactical challenges then baktria is an exellent choice as you will be facing both pahlava and the AS at different times forcing massive changes int he composition of your army, and reforms of your own tactics. if you like barbarians Gaul is a nice choice because you face both the decadent fools ("the civil peoples") and other celts. plus if you can unite/ ally with the averni then you can rush italy or create a powerful celto-franciberian empire that could compete financially with roma with naval trade with the carthaginians.
so my suggestions are Gaul, Sparta, or Baktria
EDIT: try KH before baktria and youll find it much easier, my baktrian campaign (M/M) is much more difficult than 2/3 of my KH campaigns. the lessons i learned from fighting phalanxes and heavy cavalry helped alot and allowed me to focus on forming new strategies when at a disadvantage against HA's.
My suggested tactic against cowardly HA is a purely defensive strategy. when beseiged with at most a half card, sally forth and withstand the barrage with your units and they will withdraw without engaging

Do a migration. They can be really fun and interesting.
I'm on my third try for the Saka into India. The first one was ambushed (although I had a treaty, Bactria took all my cities before I had managed to grab one in India). The second one was alright until Bactria resurrected itself (I had whittled them to one city and one unit--the king) and poured into India with enormous armies and conquered me. Pretty challenging, especially since I was almost a 200,000 mnai in debt.
I'm on a third attempt to successfully migrate now. This time, I'm not leaving Bactria intact. Conquest of Bactria early in the game is actually extremely easy if you use your hordes correctly. It's not accruing massive amounts of debt that is hard.
Someone did a Gallic faction migrating to Galatia. That was impressive. My next one, I think, might be Saba into Mesopotamia. It'll be shorter, but probably more difficult.
