Right ho, I have a kick ass idea for political factions and intrigues that could really spice up my Romani game (check out my AAR in the AAR forum [shameless self advertisement]) but i'm looking for ways to implement my idea, although EB might not be the best game to do this in.
In case anyone is interested heres what i got on the four potential factions:
The Blaisolians
Very powerful in central italy with the greatest influence over the senate of any of the four factions. Stronghold is in Arretium. Their current leader is Cnaeus Cornelius Blaiso, governor of Arretium. They despise the Scipio family and their allies with a passion. It is worth mentioning that the Castellan of Rome - Sextus Cicero could be considered an ally to Blaiso.
The Scipiites
Powerful in northern Italy and the port city of Taras. They have the greatest popular support of any group and currently hold command over a greater part of rome's standing army. Their leader is Lucius Cornelius Scipio who is the republic's most famed general. They have a break away faction in the Asinans - who mostly stay neutral and often act as mediators in political vendettas.
The Cottans
Less powerful than the Blaisolians or the Scipiites the Cottans nevertheless hold sway over many things in the republic. They are strongest in the south west and in Liguria, controlling the ports of Capua, Segesta and Rhegium. Their current head is Caius Aurelius Cotta. The Cottans often find themselves in alliances with the Scipiites against Blaiso. Their merchantile assets have made
them very rich.
The Marcellans
A relitively new faction in roman politics. They came to prominance in the spring of 260 when their leader Servius Claudius Marcellus was given command of the roman expedition to Sicily. As a party they are ambitious and independant of much outside interference.
The city of Messana in Sicily is their chief province.
