    Default Force resolution?

    Hi All,

I've had a yearning to play STW again but find myself CONSTRICTED, HELD BACK by limited screen resolution! This thing is only ramping up to 1024x768. I'm quite sure I've had it at 1600x1200 before now.

Is there a way to bump up the res?

    I'm playing v1.12, on Vista.

    Thanks

From looking into this further, it appears that resolution is limited by the graphics card / driver. Can anyone confirm this, i.e. can other people choose resolutions above 1024x768?

I'm running a Dell XPS with Vista and an 8600M GT, I think.

I've now switched back to my old Windows XP laptop - I don't know if the problem was Windows Vista, DirectX 10 or my modern screen resolution (1200x800 as opposed to the squarer resolution of 1280x1024 etc), but the program functions normally through XP.

I fear Vista may very well kill off Shogun :'(

Good to hear it works! My XP doesn't give me problems with Shogun yet, but I too fear the inevitable 'upgrade' to Vista..

    Don't do it :P

I've been using Vista for about three months now and almost exclusively, I prefer XP to Vista. XP is more accessible and straightforward, while being much, much less resource hungry. A decent computer with XP, Firefox 3 and AVG 8.0 will give you good internet protection, with good performance and high compatability.

Is there alot of problems with S:TW on Vist? I am afraid it wont work on my comp. It is truely the only game ever able to captivate my attention without falter through the years. I have one desktop and two laptops, all Vista. So I'm in bad shape if it has alot of problems.

Hard to say for sure. It's true that some people have reported issues with Vista. However, a majority of us suspect any problems are more likely to be related to your video card, particularly if you have an Nvidia from the 8000 series -- they're notorious for being incompatible with Shogun and MTW.

Isn't using something like Partition Magic to create a drive partition for an older OS an option? Given that drive space is so abundant now, when I upgrade to a Vista computer, I'll probably just load XP on a separate partition with a dual boot option, so I can install and play older games when I feel like it.

Maybe I'm missing something as I'm not using the dreaded Vista yet. Or perhaps the problem is the modern video card and so will still be an issue. I'm not happy to hear about the problems Vista users are having with older games.

Hi All I may be able to shed some light on this issue but not fix it.

I installed Shogun gold on my new PC running vista 64 and 2 gtx 260s in sli.

Start up the game and low and behold cant select anything but 800 x 600 camp and 640 x 480 battle map. No other options at all.

So i scratch my head and whilst reviewing my resolution window i see a second monitor. Hmm thinks i i click on it and it just happens to be stuck in 800 x 600 with all other resoultions and tabs greyed out.

Soo I'm thinking Shogun in it's infinate wisdom is picking up this setting and not my main one.

Any ideas how to force it to my priimary monitor settings? Or how to disable / delete this ghost monitor in windows ? Or force Shogun to run in a higher resolution is there acommand line switch for the executable or a config file to force higher resolutions?

The game plays fine no unit selection move issues it just looks crap with a capital C

I'm going to resist Vista for as long as possible. If in the end however I'm forced to do it, I'll probably get a dual-boot with Vista + xp or '98.

I don't get it, btw. How comes that when people create a new OS, they always make sure old software isn't compatible?

Forget that and make a dual boot with Dream Linux + WinXP.

_________Designed to match Original STW gameplay.

Ah. I don't need a new computer soon. (don't have money anyway) But some talking of what it is going to be can never hurt. I'm quite newb - What's with Dream Linux? Will it play old stuff like STW? (Since XP doesn't properly, apparantly) And, won't I need vista for new software shizzle that's like 'Vista-only' at some point?
