Default Strait of Dover Land Bridge?

Why isn't there a land bridge between the modern-day cities of Dover and Calais on the EB map. Was the Strait of Dover made uncrossable by land units in order to protect the Casse from Arverni/Aedui/Sweboz aggression or was it simply more difficult to cross in the ancient times? If it is so, then it is doing a great job, but I am playing rtw.exe, not bi.exe and therefore the poor Casse stay in their own island stronghold with two territories and three armies that have not moved a millimeter for the last 40 years in my Romani campaign. That's 160 turns! I am still playing my campaign and those three armies are still refusing to budge (I have the FOW lifted in order to see the other faction's progress). After all, the Dardanelles (1.2km wide at its narrowest) and the Strait of Messina (5.1km wide at its narrowest) are passable and the Strait of Dover (6km wide at its narrowest) isn't.

You would need a fleet of ships to cover the distance. Thus no landbridge. There is a script that fires after a certain amount of time if the Casse hold the British Isles. Then an army spawns on the mainland in northern france.

yes, people have seen it. Given how many spawn commands we have, one might think we actually know what we're doing.

By British Isles do you mean all of the territories in the modern-day Wales, England and Scotland?

I'd guess by British Isles he means British Isles, i.e. the territories in modern day Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland
Edit: And of course the Isle of Man, but that has no own city...

I always thought it would be good if diplomats, spies and assisins could cross such straights, on the presumption that it would be easier for a single person (ok, with a few retainers) to arrange passage, than it would be to ship an army across. I'm guessing this is hard-coded, though...

Yeah, I've always thought that CA should have made agent capible of moving along active trade routes, representing them getting passage on a trade ship. It would make a lot of sense for the spies and assassins. I doubt a military fleet would bring a guy who is supposed to be subtle.
