Opinion on an MMORPG

Hi

Im looking to fill the void from now till fable 2 and GOW 2 and im thinking of an MMORPG.

Im looking for opinions on the good ones.

I was going to try WOW but tried city of heroes on a trial but don't know what to think of it so far.
Help much appreciated.

My personal opinion is Pirates of the Burning Seas. It has realistic sea combat (ala Sid Meier's Pirates!) and boarding combat and ground combat (ala EverQuest). The setting is unique since you wont find any other historical late 17th century MMORPG out there. In an age of fantasy MMORPG after fantasy MMORPG, PotBS is a refreshing and fun change.

If pirating and sailing is not your cup of tea, I suggest either Ultima Online or Dark Age of Camelot.

Dungeons and Dragons: Online

The most fun I've had in a game. The entire player base is mature. Free 12 day trial or so, the game disc and a month game time is sold here for AUD$20.

Thanks for the advice but after failing to find a trial for pirates of the burning sea I decided on city of heroes.

I tried EVE as well but to be honest it didnt grab me like any other MMORPG.

Everquest 2 is nice. Not the original by a long shot, but still a good game.

In two weeks Warhammer is released. If that is even close to DAoC then it'll be a great game in a sea of mediocrite. It has more depth and history to it's lore then almost any other mmo out there.

Personally, WAR was a HUGE dissapointment, I've been playing in the closed beta for a while, but it is just no fun at all. I enjoyed the backstory, but the quests etc are just a waste of time. Considering the UI is done, it is basically impossible to use efficently.

I dont know if it is like WoW (hate that game so much) but crafting is nigh-impossible to do, and in 6 hours of gameplay with a character (Warrior Priest) i got 1 upgraded robe, 1 upgraded pair of boots and a two handed hammer. You cant buy weapons and armour etc. Only from quests, but the quests dont give you them anyway! By the time you find a quest that gives you it, you are 5-6 levels above what the weapon wants. So it isnt any good. Waste of 12gb download for me.

You can't go wrong with WoW. It can cater to almost every type of MMO player- casual, role-players, PvP junkies, ect. I think it lacks depth in many areas, but it has so much polish in what it does have.

Personally, after a year away, I got lured into Vanguard again when they offered me another free trial. PvP is virtually non-existent, but that never bothered me. Also, after all that time it still feels unfinished in some ways. But what I always liked about the game is it's complex (compared to WoW) crafting and diplomacy systems and it's expansive open world- if you can see it, you can go to it. I don't know if I'll stick with it this time either, but I really do appreciate the game for the potential it offers.

That's depressing news. I'll still probably give it a try, just to see it the rvr is worth while.

No zones, no instances, you can litterally go anywhere on the map. It had so much going for it, just so sad that they screwed up the launch. Honestly the first week playing reminded me so much of everquest, in it's hayday. The crafting was unique, the combat was different, fast in a way, but very strategic. I didn't like the way they've steadily destroyed the negatives of death. The combat now is even more interesting, if done properly it allows massive amounts of dmg. A rogue chaining correctly deals hundreds of thousands of damage in seconds, done wrong you might get a coupe tens of thousand of damage. A sand box of a mmo, so sad to see the population of it as low as it is. Makes me want to log in for awhile lol.

WoW just feels too shallow for my tastes.

Star Trek online......

That game won't see the day of light for at least three years; but it does seem to have some potential to become something fun, hard to say though, Trek and SW fans, maybe Trek fans in particular, are a hard bunch to please.

I would of liked to of tried POTBS, but for someone who was unemployed at the time, the subscription free was a little too much after putting down $50 for a game.

If I'm not mistaken there is a DC universe MMO in the works, but I really don't know too much about it.
