Why would the benefactor want to decline?
also is it up to the parent who gets to use his son as his avatar?

Who knows? If it's a enough day we may all end up Generals!"
Benefactor may decline if he have some IC grudge against the other avatar.
And it's not up to parent who gets to use his son as an avatar. When FM becomes of age but there is no player for him then they will be stored in the capital until we find a player who wants to join the game.
hmmm I think until the son is found a player, he should follow the father. It would make a bit more sense that way.

you can save without closing the MOTH pop up by quicksaving (ctrl s). The pop up is diminished, though still there and you can save the game normally.

Yes, that's one option. The other one is that you just left click on the message icon in the left side of your screen. There where all those end turn messages come. Just like LoU said, it will be diminished but still there.
I'm also a bit surprised that people don't know this.
well generally when you are playing your own campaign you dont need to make a save and ask if you can be part of the family tree... lmfao
