    Chancellor's Report spring 265

Military New units for the Basileus' Royal army have been raised, Prodromoi from Seleukeia, Persian Archers from Edessa, and Pezhetairoi from Antiocheia. Sidon has been besieged by a small Ptolemaic army of 5 units.

Construction A new school has been completed in Sardis, and no new buildings have been commissioned this season due to Royal Recruitment requirements.

Internal Affairs Timarchos A. Mysiakes has been recognized by the men under his command as a talented leader. Several talented men have been attracted into the service of the Arkhe under our Strategoi. Gennaios S. Babyloniakes has engaged the services of a Dioikeites and a Musician. Paiaitolos Ankyrikos has engaged the services of a Priest of Seleukos and a Playwright. Alexandros Syriakos has in his employ a Chreophylax, and Appolonidas A. Karikes has the assistance of a freeman clerk. Taxes have been temporarily lowered in Side to alleviate unrest.

Foreign Affairs The Koinon Hellenon of Allied Poleis have declared war upon the Sauromatae nomads, let us wish our fellow Greeks good fortune against the steppe invaders. A diplomat is en-route to Pontos to make our displeasure at their seemingly aggressive movements through our territory known.

Military Recommendations for the Basileus I recommend that troops under the command of the inactive strategos Bithys Nisaias Parthiakes be transferred to the command of Timarchos A. Mysiakes, so that he may enjoy increased chances of victory against the Ptolemaic army besieging Sidon, should he decide to engage them.

(By the way, Merlinus, I suppose you meant to say the school was finished in Sardis, not Ipsos. Otherwise you would have some things to answer for. )

The conquest of Pontus is taking to much time, we really should be quicker in future wars. I moved the Syrian army into Mazaka town.

    ------------------------

Moved Theodotas Pisidikes towards Side and moved Bithys Parthiakes to Arbela, away from the fighting. LordOfUmbar haven't been here for a while so his avatar will be stored there.

Moved part of my RA and Antiochos west. I hope that he can collect his units in the next couple of turns.

    Chancellor's Report Summer 265

Military New units for Basileus' Royal Army raised, Thureophoroi from Antiocheia, Asiatikoi Hippakontistai from Karkathiokerta, and Persian Archers from Edessa. Toxotai and (1) Hippakontistai from the 1st Lydian army were retrained to full strength at Antiocheia.

Construction ground was broken this season on new roads for Halikarnassos.

Internal Affairs newly promoted to Strategos, one Nikanor Kybiosaktes has just arrived in Seleukeia to report to the Basileus, congratulations to him on his promotion.

Foreign Affairs The Romani have been touted as the most advanced nation in the world. The independent Nabatoi people of Bostra have repelled a large Ptolemaic Army.

Intelligence 2 Ptolemaioi spies have been reported to be seen in the area of Sidon, and the army besieging said city appears relatively weak, with several understrength units. It appears that the much vaunted strength of our enemy is nothing but a paper tiger. The Ptolemaic force driven from the Nabatoi city of Bostra has been reported to be taking shelter in Hierosolyma. Mithridates Kianos, the son of the pretender king of Pontos was spotted heading towards Ankyra, he was traveling with his retinue and Guard only. 2 Pontic armies are camped outside of Amaseia, very close to our border town of Mazaka, they were discovered by our emissary Meleagros S. Pamphyliakes.

    Chancellor's Report Fall 265

Military Retrained the 1st Lydian Army at Antiocheia to full strength, Hippakontistai, Thureophoroi, Pantodapoi Phalangitai, and Akontistai. Also retrained Ioudaioi and Pantodapoi Phalangitai in Sidon.

Construction Work has begun on a coastal clearing near Side. Roads have been completed in Halikarnassos, and an armory has been added to the foreign conscription center in Hekatompylos.

Internal Affairs We are recognized as the most advanced nation in the known world.

Foreign Affairs The known world recognizes the Military might of Karchedon as unmatched by any other. Our former emissary to Pontos, Meleagros S. Pamphyliakes has taken their gold and left our service, immediately after he announced to them the end of our alliance. We regret that our client was unable to satisfy our grievances towards their untoward actions without treachery.

Intelligence Agents report that most of the garrison of Ankyra have left the city, while the Pontic pretender's son has entered the city. The 5 unit raiding party seems to be heading toward Ipsos, composed of mostly Galatian levies. A relatively weak Ptolemaic force has crossed our southern border from Ioudaia into Southern Phoinike, they are most likely heading toward Sidon, with other forces massing near Hierosolyma.

    Report:

Heroic Victory on one of the Pontic armies camped out of the city and on the city's garrisons who came to reinforce the first army. They were exterminated. The city was clear and the 1st Syrian Army took it. A enemy General died in the battle.

There is still a Pontic army camped outside the city.

Strategos Epilektos Aratos Syriakes enslaved and looted the city, a painful decision. A conflict of interests took place between saving the citizens or enslaving them, in order to fund the Arkhe's war against Ptolemy. Strategos Arrhenides did not approve Aratos' decision.

The treasury has been increased to more or less 8000 mnai, as Strategos Aratos decided to loot the city's barracks of no use to the Empire. Their worshipping buildings have been sparred as they can become a good foundation for temples dedicated to our gods.
