Hi!

I`m interested in the origins of Pergamon/Kingdom of Attalids. AFAIK P. wasn`t a paricularly large or powerful city (was it a polis?) during Alex the Great rule. It gained it`s independence, when a guy called Filetajros, who was charged with defence of the Pergamon and 9000 talents deposited there, rebelled from a Lizymach`s rule.

Was this 9000 talents enough to kickstart a new kingdom or were there more factors, that contributed to the emergence of this state? What were the main sources of income of Attalid rulers, especially Attalos I and Eumenes II, who erected Pergamene Library and a few other monumental structures? How did Pergamene Library compare to the Alexandrian one?
