My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.
I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.
I'm normally not a big fan of country, but I'll admit that's a decent tune. Merle Haggard is to be commended.![]()

Nice song. I hadn't heard that one in a loooong time. Today's country music radio pays lip service to the legends (Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Haggard, etc.) but wouldn't be caught dead playing any of their stuff - okay, maybe an hour or two on Sunday mornings at 6am.
Anyway, my personal favourite of Merle's is Rainbow Stew, which is kind of a "when pigs fly" song.
When we find out how to burn water
And the gasoline car is gone
When an airplane flies without any fuel
And the sunlight heats our homes
One of these days when the air clears up
And the sun comes shining through
We'll all be drinkin' free bubble-ubb
And eatin' that rainbow stew.
...When the President walks through the White House door
And does what he said he'd do
We'll all be drinkin' free bubble-ubb
And eatin' that rainbow stew.

Good stuff gentlemen.Brings back memories of my childhood. My Dad raised me on country music, took me to the Grand Ole Opry, and of course we watched this every night it was on... HeeHaw

Be intent on loyalty
While others aspire to perform meritorious services
Concentrate on purity of intent
While those around you are beset by egoism
