Thread: Slowness from hell.

    Default Slowness from hell.

Ok. I got the game installed. And it's slow as hell.

I used all the tips in the 'quickening' topics' first posts, weren't sure about the rest.

Are there some movies I can delete, descriptions I can turn off (loading screen's?)?

The game took me around 30 minutes to go from running to the real actual game. :P

What's your computer like? Mine dates back to about 2000 and I'm up in running in ten. And plays at a decent rate. Hope you're able to find a solution--EB is worth it.

Maybe you should buy another gig of ram? I guess you only have a half gig, right? Or you could try running the game with the "EBTrivialScript_setup" in your "extra" folder. This will make the game run alot quicker, but you will miss alot of the EB-goodies.

I only have half a gig and it runs well (For a year I thought I had a full gig of RAM)

I'll check on most of the data later, but I should have around 200 MB of RAM. Also, it's a notebook and I can't add any ram or anything.

Slow as hell. Well. If the very first loading screen takes around 15 minutes to advance, you'll get the pic.

assign a whole load of virtual ram to your OS drive and the drive you install EB, i speeds things up by a lot

    umm get quick kill

What I do to maximize my computer is
    -run ccleaner
    -defragment the harddrive
    -Downloaded Quickkill
-Disabled all windows' animatiations I'm using the windows 98 skin and a black background btw
-Disable your Antivirus (to do so , right clic on the AV icon in the task bar (besides the clock) and select close or something..., whn you finish , run the AV again (start/all programs/ [your AV])
-I also downloaded 5star game tuner

as an extra... when EB loads up I alt-tab and open the task manager ,then I end the explorer.exe (which turns the desktop completely black, then close the tast manager and alt-tab to the game again... when you're done ,open the task manager/ new task / explorer.exe

also when using .exes diferent to .rtw the load times are 50% faster or so, I bealive alex.exe is faster but BI is also an improvement

with those my performanance goes up like 40-50%

i sorta have the same problem in that loading screens (particularly the main one at the beginning) takes at least 3 minutes to load, but other than that my game runs smooth and is great. check out what these guys are saying, i guarantee they'll be able to help
Pull the trigger and hope it clicks

200 MB of RAM? Yeah, that's not nearly enough to run EB well. How slow is regular RTW? I sometimes experience choppiness with 2 GB of RAM (mostly only in the first battle per game initialization).

Agree with Cullhwch. You don't have enough RAM. I don't know about virtual RAM or any of that business.... I just get a prebuilt computer by throwing money at technical people and telling them "turn this into awesome."
I do the same at taco bell. I give them a 20 and say "turn this into tacos."

You can eat $20 worth of Taco Bell? Damn, that's both impressive and alarmingly unhealthy.

Normal RTW works quite fine. I can even play battles (since I lose quite a bit too much when I autoresolve). Granted, I'm on 'Small' unit size.

Still, normal RTW loads rather quick and seems otherwise fine to me also (except that the campaign map is full black and such).

Anyways, if I can't play EB... perhaps I can somehow play normal on the EB map (just as Mundus Magnus was but that didn't work for RTW 1.5)?

EB bloats out almost every data file, which means that it takes the RTW engine far longer to load all the data required. 200MB RAM may well be good enough for RTW but it certainly is not good enough for EB. You could mod the map in yourself, but there is no mod out there that has the EB map for vanilla RTW. That would be wierd, somehow.

Well, Mundus Magnus had it, but I guess it doesn't work fine in 1.5. Seems I'll have to wait for some time until I get a new computer (years old dream.-. :D )

Thanks. I also tried out RTR and it seems to work even better than Vanilla. Too bad it isn't as cool as EB. :P

    Thanks for the help.

You could also go to the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del), and prioritize all of your processes.

It can, but it doesn't do too much more to be higher in priority.
There is also a way to start a program always on highest priority, but I forget how to do that...

Hmmm, I don't know. For instance, EB normally takes up about 600 megabytes of memory on Normal Priority, but when I change it to Low Priority (when EB is minimized), EB takes up only 250 megabytes on average.
