No reflection on you, yet one of the great problems with all the Cannae Battle vids and movies I've seen is, they don't demonstrate that the battle technically lasted four days and how the terrain and logic were turned on the Romans.

Sorry, actually the battle lasted five days. One may note that each battle Hannibal won he used the enemy's own momentum against them. Indirectly Hannibal picked the day, time, ground, and even the Roman commander he faced. However, he led the Romans to believe, that all the factors were in their favor, and they were making all the discussions based on logic. On top of this on the battle field he laid all his cards out on the table for the Roman commander to clearly see. Yet, he did this in a manner to obscure his true counter-offensive intent.

For example, he massed most of and his best horse on his left next to the Autidus River so the Romans could see there was little room for maneuver. So they did not think they would be a threat during the fight. Still this was the key Hannibal used to win the battle and destroying the Roman field force. Instead if he had massed this horse on his right, the Romans would have immediately perceived the danger.

Also the escape of Publius Cornelius Scipio (AM) from the battle field (this was the third time) set in motion the events that lead to Hannibal's defeat at Zama, and in turn the defeat of Carthage.

good info CmacQ I'll keep it in mind when I do the next one

I was going to do like a proper movie with all the major battles in it but as I can't record the historical battles I had to leave that

made a trasimene and several more will be on the way just wondering if you know of any detailed terrain maps of the battles site themselves I've got peter connelly which has some good historical information and a few other sources but nothing as good as peter connelly

It was just a joke on Scottish (I presume). Cannae = Cannot.
