    Cool Gun

    .
Froggie recommended it a few months ago and here I am, back to gaming with the waxing of my routine seasonal depression, aka hibernation , playing Gun.

So far I've liked it. Controls are smooth, graphics pretty, voice acting warm, if repetitive, and the plot cool. The immersion is mildly satisfactory. I'd like it to be an RPG but you can't get all in one.

I haven't been very much into the game yet. So far...

The game is a good one if you don't mind it's shortness. Pretty well done outdoors and missions.
I specially liked it because I'm a big fan of thr Western genre, few such games out there. What's not right was that it had a very very small gameworld when compared to other open-ended games and, like I said, the whole thing's short, and after you finish the missions, nothing to do but ride.

If you beat it, be sure to share the spolier on here, I've had the game for xbox, played it on PS2 and currently have it on the 360, and in all three i've never been able to beat the final boss.

Gun is one of the best 1/5th's of a game I ever played. I beat the whole thing including all the side missions in about 8 hours on my first playthrough. Woulda been one of the best games ever IMO if they remembered to put in the other 4/5ths of the game. I'd recommend it as a bargain bin game (which is where I got it from) or a rental, but certainly wouldn't have been worth the full price it was originally released at due to the very limited amount of content.

You need to be fast on your feet if its the top of the bridge

I'd like to try out GUN to the tune of the 3:10 to Yuma soundtrack sometime, I've tried with COJ and its sweet.

The multi-phase bridge defense was the second hardest part of the game for me. The final boss was the worst. Both sections asked the player to run like a nutter and do a lot of accurate aiming in all sorts of directions with little margin for error. Sounds reasonable. The problem? I could either have my movement controls set up the way I wanted or my aiming controls, not both. One of the two always had to be 'backwards' because of the way the camera settings were handled.

I found the rifle to be my best friend. Powerful, accurate, not too bad to reload. A single headshot will drop most enemies. That's how I eventually passed the bridge defense section. You'll acquire better rifles as you progress, to the point where they are quite godly. Once I got the pair of pistols I used them frequently.

The typical reflex-oriented gameplay that I dislike. I don't think I'll pursue my career as a gunner in Gun but the atmosphere may still lure me in, I don't know.

    Thanks for the pointers.

If you find your reflexes are lacking, use your pistol. The slow-motion special ability helps in nailing those headshots (which are still fatal, no matter what weapon you use).

If I recall correctly then success in Gun is largely tied to what you pump your stats into.

What I did was read the guide on gamefaqs before I started playing, and pumped my points into the stats they said to. That way it was easy to beat the game. If you are pumping stats into things that are less useful though, you are probably making the game much harder on yourself.

Just looked it up again now. If you are putting points into melee or horse, then you are fubaring yourself since those are relatively useless skills. Put everything into Gunhand and Quickdraw.

I don't recall any section of the game where Quickdraw was inherently disabled. That could just be me not remembering though. What do you mean by 'disabled', exactly? By that do you mean that you simply used up all your Quickdraw time?

I recommend go do every side mission you can before trying that area you are stuck at, and pump all the stats you get from those side missions into Gunhand and Quickdraw. Then it will be a lot easier to beat the mission you are stuck at.

That's a link to the guide I'm talking about:
