Lorica Segmantata. Only in custom battle?

Q: Will there be Lorica Segmentata in EB2?
A: Lorica Segmentata was not widely used within the games time frame. Even though it could be argued that it was used to a minimal extent at the very end of the time frame the team has decided not to include any Lorica Segmentata in the official EB2 releases.

Everyone understand very much that the Lorica Segmantata is not in the time frame of total war. But i still think there is more reasons to have it in the game.

When i found out i was intrested in history for some years ago, i understand that i have to keep my old impression of ancient rome. The impression that i think most people have. And i think that most of us still have a little of this impression inside our souls.

This impression contains a lot of things, but maybe the most important is the roman armour. But i think it is very important to have it. Becouse it is Rome: total war. Not punic war total war or anything, but it is rome.

So i think you sould include it in custom battles. not in campagin.

The point of EB is historical accuracy! What has a false impression of the Roman armor has to do with it?! If you want LS there is plenty of it in R:TW Vanilla. There are also flaming pigs, wardogs etc. No offense meant, I also enjoy watching them sometimes, but there is Vanilla for this and when I want a good historical game I play EB! And in a good historical game there is no place for LS!
The false image of soldiers fighting single combats as in Troy instead of fighting in a formation is also common and cool but it is not historical, is it?

No, it's not. It's EB.

EB has the expressed goal of presenting all factions equally, without focus on any particular faction. That means that all factions will be given the same degree of realism and historical accuracy in their units and culture.
To give the Romans an unhistorical unit just because it would be cool, is completely out of line with this goal.
And the EB-team has clearly stated that LS will not be in the game, so there is no need to discuss this further.

ludwag, by your very argument the popular representations of the celts as barbaric, dirty and stupid people should also be propagated by EB. But that would be awful.

Lorica Segmentata will no appear in game. Ludwag your arguments for it are perhaps the worst I've seen, at least others actually try to use historical and archaelogical evidence to back their case. But you argue that because Hollywood and re-enactors use it then so should we. Rather poor, don't you think.

I don't really see why it is a problem anyway. I have no doubt that some enterprising young modeller will take it upon themself to make submod for EBII where you can find LS for your romans.

When playing a custom battle it dont has before 14ad. One of the things i love the most about EB is the historical accuracy in the units. It gives me a good feeling when playing a battle.

but the romans did use lorica segmantata. even though it is not in the time frame of eb, why cant it be used in custom battles? I cant see anything negative about that.

Many people like the gameplay in eb so much that they play only this mod. If you include the armour many people would be glad and many people will play this mod. it is not historical inacurate to have it in custom battles.

It would require a unit slot, or at least would require modellers and skinners to work on something that we don't even want in the game. If you want it find someone else who does and who can model and skin, or learn yourself. We are not going to waste our time on a piece of armour because people have a certain perception of the romans and wish to be vindicated in that perception. We don't cater to lazy people, and people who want to see something because that is how they've always seen something is a class of laziness. Open your eyes and be happy with what was really there, not what you think was cool.

Are you against having the armour in the game, or you just havent time to make it? If so, i very much understand that. myself i dont know much about modding, but if i get to make the model, will you use it? i have a friend who can.

Every time i play i am happy with what is there. I really am. I love your mod very much. And i have never missed the lorica segmantata armour while playing. But what i want, and i know it is not only me, is to set up a battle with romans and they look like legionaries the ones who are pictured in the books. Even though it is not in the EB time.

But dont misunderstand me. When i am suggesting things it is not becouse i dont like your mod, it is maybe becouse i love it so much and i keep thinking about it. i think you should think about that as a very good thing and i am being negative.

Personally I hate lorica segmentata. Makes the romans look like American Football players. However that is not the issue. To have them playable in a custom battle we would need to waste a unit slot. That is just not going to happen. We aren't going to waste valuable resources on a unit that would only ever exist in custom battles and shouldn't even exist in our timeframe. Thats like someone asking us to make early sassanid units just because they like them. Its not going to happen and they certainly won't appear in any release of EBII.

However people will make submods for EBII and no doubt lorica segmentata will appear in one of them, if so you can just download that and there won't be any difference.

okay thanks for answer. I understand now, and i also think the american footballplayer-compare was good. but that is when they are dressed red, and have no pants and very big shoulders. but you made me realise it was probably not the armour itself, but probably the IG helmet, was what i was thinking about. I diddnt know the monterfortino helmet witch appear in the mod had a tassel.

I understand you well that you cant waste a slot and time to make. And i really am very exited about eb 2 anyway, you should know that. i love this mod.
