    Default Keystone Cops Battle Movement

    Hi,

I'm new to Europa Barbarorum, but I instantly fell in-love with the depth and painstaking research evident in the mod.

But I've got just one problem...

Maybe it's because I've been playing the Total Realism mod up to now, but the speed of troop movement in the EB battles looks far too fast to me. The little b*ggers zip around like caffeine-fuelled ants, even on the Normal time setting, and it kills the feeling of realism. I've tried upping all the graphic settings to maximum, but all that does is slow the frame-rate, not the movement of my hyperactive soldiers.

I realise that this is an entirely aesthetic problem - 'realistically' paced battles would take hours or even days - but can anyone tell me how to slow the marching rate down a bit?

UPDATE: Playing a bit more, I think the problem isn't the marching (which seems about the same speed as in RTR) but the troops' running/charging is definitely too fast.

or maybe the problem is your dual core CPU unit?
I've played RTR and EB, and no uberspeed soldiers noticed...
If you have dual core try to switch off one.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm fairly certain that my ancient (non-duel core) PC isn't the reason.

If there's no way to fix the problem, I'll just have to get used to it. Everything else in EB will obviously make the effort worthwhile. :)

Red face Re: Keystone Cops Battle Movement

I've noticed that troops move vquickly in my Casse campaign, the infantry actually seems to move faster (or almost as fast as) the chariots!

I have the same problem. It's a shame because this is not due to a shortcoming in the RTW engine, the animations can be slowed down and made more realistic. IMHO, the N2TW animations most accurately reflect real battle, including the difficulties of keeping soldiers in formation over rough and broken terrain. Battles take much longer and are more tactically-oriented. Choosing the proper terrain and estimating the speed with which your men can make forced marches to seize important positions is a crucial element of the game. With vanilla RTW itself and all other RTW mods (EB included, unfortunately), battles go by so fast that coordination becomes far more important than tactical aptitude. Maintain cohesion in the battle line does not much matter and units rarely rout due to being flanked. This is all in sharp contrast to N2TW.

Don't get me wrong; EB is the best.

Try some of the AI formation mods, they seem to keep the AI's forces together better so they manouvre as a whole which slows them down a bit, of course some of the "barbarians" factions troops do move very quickly.
