Default advice on choosing a faction in MTW XL

i hope that this is in the correct forum but i'd love to know what are some of the more fun factions to play with the XL mod. there's several in the high era that i'd like to check out but i didn't know if starting in the high era makes the game too short to really be able to build up an empire without feeling rushed or whatever.

in the high era, i'm kinda torn between checking out Bulgaria, the Byzantines, or the Teutons but i'd love to hear opinions on which are the favorite factions to play. since the Byzantines aren't able to produce any units at Fortress level and Bulgaria can at least build Pikemen, i'm guessing that Bulgaria would be more fun to play in the high era but any advice would be greatly appreciated. i apologize in advance if this is the wrong forum but the only forum related to the XL mod that i could find on here was the forum for strategy guides.

Unless you're an *extreme* turtler, starting in the High period should still give you enough time. You might not necessarily be able to get the full 100% victory (although many still do), but you'll at least be able to get the "minor" 60% victory without much difficulty.

Well I've not played as either Bulgaria or the Teutons, so unfortunately I can't really comment on them. For what it's worth, I *do* know that the Teutons seem to be among the more popular factions in the High period. And of course, the Byz are always interesting to play in the High period regardless -- regaining Constantinople can be a challenge at times.

Posting here in the Entrance Hall is perfectly fine. In the future, however, you'd probably be better off asking such questions in the Main Hall, if only because more MTW players frequent it (and you're therefore more likely to get a timely answer).

thanks for all of the help. i think that i'll probably end up going with the Teutonic Order or the Crusaders this time around and then try to do some major turtling on an early era game with Aragon or Bohemia and see if i can drag the game out long enough to finally get to see the gothic units and/or Spanish lancers. i usually get bored with my early era games when it gets down to 8-10 factions left on the map.
