    Default Rebels or Loyalists

So thought this might be fun to see when you inevitably begin to have a struggle and your forces divide who you would chose and why.

Although there is very little concrete data at this point I assume if Rebels win the upside is new soldiers but more freedoms so less dictator like rule. Where as if the Loyalists win I assume you'd still keep current govertment but the stability may only be temporary or something similar.

So what would you pick and why, feel to elabortate, long posts are welcome as I am curioius

This is my first time trying a poll on this forum so may take a try or two to edit this properly, here goes though.

If I'm leading my empire to greatness then I'd join the Loyalist cause. Whatever I was doing brought me success and it should remain that way.

If my empire was crumbling then I'd consider helping the rebellion. Or if I was too powerful I'd join the rebels just to mix things up a bit.

Since I like to be a Dictator and want everything done the way I want then I'll support Loyalist.

I'd say I'd be more likely to back the Rebels than not (although it will always partially depend on the current circumstances). If my faction is suffering from a violent revolution, chances are a change in government is warranted anyway.

Loyalists, it will depend upon the situation of course but I will likely be in enough hot water with world affairs then worrying about a government change. Besides sometimes it's just fun to crush rebellions.

    Take that George Washington!

    Rebels every time.

Down with the establishment! Vive la revolution!

Plus, should be fun to play as emergent factions.

Thumbs up Re: Rebels or Loyalists

    Rebels! Viva La Revolution!!!

Aside from submitting to my violent, rebellious feelings in-game, I would also believe, as Martok previously stated, that a change in government is probably a smart thing to do. However, it would also depend on the exact circumstances, though...

I will be ruling my Empire with an iron fist and so I will be firmly Loyalist.

    Take that Rebels!

I'll grab my musket, my bayonet and my fancy hat and start shooting rebellious peasants from the windows of my country manor.

On the other hand if my country is a republic (say the USA) and the rebels want to put a king into power, I might support them just to see America under royal rule.

I would be hard pressed to raise my hand against the established and legitimate order, but in times of social upheaval, a man must remain flexible.

A Cromwellian republic would be much better.

Well if E:TW is flexable enough and I am the Brits in the Canadian region and they Rebel then I would choose the rebels but seeing as this is an American based game I don't think there will be a Canadian emergent faction. It all depends. I wish there was a third option for both because so games I will rebel and some I wont.

True undoubetdly different players will do different ones at different times.

This is more of a in game situation though.

The little dialogue box pops up,

Say do you join rebels or loyalist

You click one. No right or wrong answer really, just curious.

But we won't actually be able to change factions trough this mechanism will we? For example play the Thirteen Colonies if they rebel from Britain?

I thought it meant more if you change between the three government types, on a faction-wide scale.

Actually, I believe that's precisely what happens if/when the U.S. emerge -- you get the choice to either play as the Americans or continue playing as the British (or whichever faction happens to own the Colonies at the time). However, I do believe that is the exception to the rule.

That's my understanding as well -- the Thirteen Colonies appears to be a special situation that probably won't apply anywhere else. Normally, if you have a revolution/rebellion on your hands and you have to choose between backing the Loyalists or Revolutionaries, it's across the entire faction.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. Sounds like a good feature. I wonder if I can mod it so I can play an emergent Scotland...

I would argue, but I shouldn't here. Sorry I can't help bringing the Backroom with me wherever I go these days.

Same. By the way Ireland is not in the Commonwealth either as it happens.

CA has said that the Jacobites can appear -- although like the U.S. declaring independence from Britain, it will apparently only happen under the right conditions. There's no word yet on whether or not you can switch to playing as them, but I would hope that it would be possible via modding if nothing else.

A wise man does not simply back either side based on a mere name. If the rebels are huge, powerful and include most of your former empire you may want to back them. Especially if they are made up of most of the decent generals. It will be interesting to see how this facet of the game works. Civil wars were a great feature of MTW that has been missing from later titles.

What is going to be more exciting is other factions with civil wars.

Agreed. Civil wars should really help with the roleplaying aspect of the game. Combined with national rebellions, this will add a lot that was missing in M2TW. Although Kingdoms improved it a lot, almost all the time if you captured a province you knew you would have it in the end game.

Things will be more interesting in ETW...

I'd save game, pick one and then later go back and play the other side.
I'm also considering inciteing a rebellion just before the last territory is taken. Then I can slug it out one huge empire vs another.

I remeber in Rome Total War Barbarian invasion, though it was a pretty bare basic system, when if you played as Eastern Empire or Western Empire, the rebel factions would pop up across your empire and a vareity of generals and armies would join. It was fun. I liked having to reunify my empire, and it was by far one of the most difficult campaigns I played...though that could also be because of the random hordes.

You would think if you were France there'd be some sort of Napolean v old monarchy system in place. I guess the focus is england tho.

If I'm not wrong, the monarchy had been overthrown before Napoleon ever came to power, and when he returned from his exile on Elba, the armies Louis had sent to stop him from reaching Paris, insted joined him in the march, after he spoke to them.
Perhaps it's just a story, but it's one that captivates imagination nonetheless; Napoleon, standing amongst men, all getting ready to fight, and then he speaks, and the enemy relents, and joins him...

Well looks like the Loyalist are about 20% ahead in this poll thus far.

Though rebels did get a fair amount of votes it looks like most people will go with those who have been loyal.

Of course I'd make this poll more specific if we had more details about how civil wars, loyalist, and rebels all work. Till then this poll shall have to suffice :)

Perhaps this indicates members of The Org are trustworthy loyal types you can count on to stand by you in times of crisis?

    Then again perhaps not

    Cool Re: Rebels or Loyalists

The people cannot be trusted to rule themselves without the guidance of royalty. The masses are easily swayed by rumor and their passions. As Lord Vader would say "crush the rebel scum"
