War of 1812 and I suppose Napoleons 100 days since it seems the game ends in 1800 and not 1820 as previously thought, unless the date was a typo in the article that was released recently.

Thumbs up Re: Mini-Campaigns for Expansion

I thought it was a typo, and that Jack Lusted confirmed it as being such. Don't scare me, please.

Anyways, I think a war in North America is an absolute must. The 7-years-war, the War of 1812, whichever it may be, would be pretty sweet. A Napoleon campaign would be pretty awesome, too. The staggering amount of combat and campaigns would be intense.

As for any others, well, I'm not so sure. My knowledge concerning this era in history isn't exactly clear as sunshine.

Napoleon, then, maybe something near the time of the Revolt of 1857, and something about the American Civil War, or the American-Indian Wars...........though I have a feeling that the latter two might not be possible considering they were using repeating rifles by then.

The ACW and Indian wars seems a little too far advance for the scope of the game, IMO, even for an expansion pack. Although the French and Indian wars or the maybe the French revolution (localized in France and picking between Royal or Republic soldiers) would be interesting. I'm sure there are plenty of other things that happened during the 1700s.

Am I the only one interested in a shogun type expansion? Because Japan isn't big enough for a S2:TW. The land battles engine would be perfect for a shogun expansion.

That almost has nothing to do with ETW, though. To the best of my memory, Japan was a small, isolated island throughout this time period. If you want to try Shogun again, it would have to be a new game, or a mod.

    Gah! Please, no.

Not that I don't find U.S. history interesting, but most of it wouldn't translate very well to a Total War game. Most wars/conflicts in our first century generally involved only two major factions, which simply wouldn't be that interesting to play.

About the only period I could think of that even might work would be a Colonies campaign, set back in the 16th-17th century. At least there you could have four European factions (the Dutch, English, French, and Spanish) and maybe 2-3 major Native American tribes (Iroquois and the Crow, perhaps? I'm not that familiar with the tribes in the eastern U.S.), all fighting over territory in North America.

Aside from that, though, I just can't see an expansion over here.

Rest assured they will release a expansion.

If you were basing this off previous expansions I'd say the 4 would break down like this.

    1. England revolt=They are in england, they like england, chances are one of the campaigns will involve england, a war a revolt, something.

    2. Napolean=It's to famous and easy of a cash cow not to do. Well documented sides, lots of gunpowder, etc etc.

3.Something in new world Asia or Americas.

    4. Something with the US, yes if for no other reason then they now seem to be on a america band wagon for sales. (I blame Sega)

I would like to see a campaign set in one of the areas that Empire misss out. Asia, Africa and South America would all be good locations. I would also really love to see a naval focused campaign based around the Caribbean. Island warfare is fascinating, and I doubt we will see much of it in the main campaign.

The majority of the weapons used in the civil war by infantry were muzzel loaded. Repeating rifles did not come in to increased use until the end of the war. The muzzel loaded rifles did have increades accuracy and range though. The high rate of casualties in the war is partially attributed to the use of tactics developed for the previous generation of rifles that had lower range and accuracy.
Repeating rifles would probably just require an incresed rate of fire.

Since the GNW was covered...maybe Napoleon's Russian campaign? Or just a general 'Napoleonic' campaign.

For something more obscure, perhaps a campaign about the partition of Poland? Sure it was historically pretty one-sided (from the Polish point of view, anyway :P), but it might be interesting to do some alternate history there.

For the Americans (and Texans) maybe a Texas Revolution mini-campaign? I think that'd be really great, myself. Remember the Alamo!

I'm the one who said Texas War of Independence >_>

I don't think they'll do a 'Japan: Total War' minicampaign for this one. Unless it's about the Japanese civil war in the mid 1800's, which is a bit out of this game's time period and (to a lot of people) a rather obscure period of history. The general knowledge of people outside of Asia about that era is basically "Perry showed up and said 'Let there be Light!' and suddenly Japan started producing cars and cell phones."

The various Latin American wars for independence are kind of a maybe. The only thing I hated more than when the AI was at the top of a steep hill in RTW and MTW2 was when the AI was at the top of a steel hill and the entire map was covered in forest. And somehow I imagine any campaign in South America would involve lots of jungle fighting.

    Sadly, I agree.

While the ambushes, jungle fighting and guriella warfare could be fun I don't think Total War Ai is up to par for playing them out properly.

I used to hate battles where it was me literally *Chasing* the AI waiting until they realized where I was and attacked. Those got very boring very fast. I just wanted them to attack or at least defend, even retreat. Instead they just ran around in a circle.
