    Default Buenos Aires

So, I'm travelling to Buenos Aires next week for a conference.

Most of the week will be spent sitting in dark rooms listening to presentations (and giving one myself, yeek!), but I do have one whole day to myself to see the sights.

So I guess mostly I'm wondering whether any of the Argentinian members of the Org, or other nationalities who have visited Buenos Aires, have any travel advice they think I might find useful?

What is there to see and do in the capital of Argentina? I don't really have any specific plans so any suggestions for stuff worth doing other than sitting in my hotel room on my lonesome worrying about my presentation would be welcome.

Is there a lot of crime (bearing mind I am a very obvious tourist)? Are taxis reliable or would I be better off using public transport?

    Hello Poor Bloody Infantry,

I hope you like Argentina. You should see "The Caminito", which is located at the barrio of La Boca, where the best football team started.

If I were you, I would be VERY worried about crime. Buenos Aires is not a safe city. Public transport is not a good thing, and taxis aren't all of them safe. I'd ask for help.

Where on this beige, brown, and olive-drab everything will stick, sting, bite, and/or eat you; most rickety-tick.

A local participant at the conference may be troubled, to help? There may also be more safty in numbers, and of course spring is starting there now, so a wee bit cool at night. Indeed La Boca is a somewhat artsy place to see, and otherwise literarily very colourful, when compared to the rest of the city's grey skyline.

I envy you, Mr. Infantry. I've heard that public transport isn't so perfect there, that the subway only works form dawn till dusk or so because of the crime, and that you better take a taxi.

Got home a couple of hours ago. Thanks to all who gave suggestions and tips, I didn't have any problems and Buenos Aires was lovely. Wish I'd had more time to see the city instead of physics seminars.

Very strange to go from the lovely Argentine spring straight to the cold, gloomy British autumn.

How are the women, please? I'm so curious because I know a girl from there, so thoroughly different from the girls of my area, that I'd like to have some reference information. And I mean character-wise.

Alas, I spent the whole week in particle physics seminars, so all I can really tell you about the women of Argentina is that they are not apparently much interested in particle physics seminars.

Foolish bookworm! You should have better spent some time in the famous brothels over there instead of wasting your time with such futile efforts like physics. Disappointing.

Indeed. Alas, my conference expenses for some bizarre reason don't cover such essentials.

And my girlfriend may not be too impressed with my explanation about "sampling a foreign culture and broadening my experience of the world".

Good look with your Argentinian lady friend BTW. I will say that the Argentine women are very pretty, I hope she falls into the same category.

They don't even pay you for visiting brothels? Wow that's greedy.

Yes the particular Argentine lady is indeed very pretty, but unfortunately not mine. She is married to someone... and she holds family values in very high regards... and our time together will most likely be terminated in a few weeks. Yes such a persom am I, falling in love with somebody unreachable and wasting time with squabbling about nada.
