Obsession with Perfection?

Well we all know EB is best Role-Played but do we do it at an extent that we desire outcomes to be near as perfect as we want it to be? Like for me i don't like it when my FM don't get at least some traits/Retinue every turn. I also don't like battles that i don't get anything from(FM trait/Chevrons)
Also i try to get as "little" negative traits as possible.

How do you guys play you'r campaigns? do you just accept a turn with negative traits? i usually reload the game and try again wehehe.....

i never try again. but maybe becouse after i have got a lot of family members, i cant remember the names aymore, and i cant remember anything about my characters. And when there comes very much new traits all the time it is very easy to stop caring.

but i care about my important generals, like the ones who are fighting and stuff.

Well in my game style almost "all" my family members are generals i don't let them govern any cities except for those in the italian mainland mostle Roma, Capua and arretium.

The only shady things I do is to give myself some money (I just can't be bothered sitting there for 20 turns and then cheer when one of my cities can upgrade their minor temple), and auto_win defender/attacker the battles that shouldn't be fought. If I have a delegate on a trip to Italy (playing as the Ptolemaioi), then I'd like the other maritime powers and rebels to stay out of my hair, because It's a damn diplomacy/mercenary trip.

However I don't go overboard with the money. I give myself a lot of it, but then, that's it. It's just to get a basic start going. I always spend it on buildings too, and I don't try to eliminate factions ASAP. As for reloading negative traits, lost battle etc. (the only time you could possibly lose against the AI would be if you were using a very outclassed/outnumbered force, and even if you're very outnumbered, it's possible to win quite easily anyway), I don't do that. If I lose, I lose, and if I get a negative trait, well then obviously I get a negative trait. I think it detracts from the overall experience by cheating too much, but I also think the buildings are constructed at a very slow, expensive pace, which also detracts from the game, because unless you add money, you might not do anything for a looooong time, besides cheering when minor temples go up and celebrating when markets are completed. As I said though, don't get me wrong; I only use the money cheat to give me a start.

You realy shouldn't. Those characters are (represent) human beeings. And not all are perfect supermen.

Bah, each to his own. I do not think it is immoral to reload campaigns after receiving negative traits and such, so you need not fear divine retribution.

Personally, I agree with Konny on this one. My best campaigns have historically been the ones in which I struggled to survive. Taking shortcuts stains my conscience and ruins the game.

Moneycheating makes the campaign way easier, of course, but actually one only has money problems in the very beginning. If you have conquered some strategical provinces you soon get loads of money every turn, there are always provinces being worth taken (e.g. almost all sea provinces in the Mediterranean for their huge trade or those with good mining).
And when cheating, I very quickly reach a point in the campaign where I think "what's the point?" as I became the ultimate unbeatable superpower in a single decade...
Mainly I cheated when I was new to EB and crumbled every few first turn, being overwhelmed with all the possibilities and factors one has to pay attention to...

As Fanatic stated, I love it when "things go wrong" because then one actually has to REact and not, as most the time in EB, be the initiator of actions. I think it's pretty cool if I lose an important and strong army during siege or several family members get slaughtered, offering an administrational problem.
To increase the possibility of such events, I try not to use the AI dumbness for my advantage and either help them out by moving armies or ignore their obvious dumbage...this way I have fewer, but way more serious battles, as the enemy armies stand united and not scattered 2-3 units everywhere.
And with alex.exe they also manage to unite their different armies in the battle itself :)

But that's only my opinion, each one his own way to ultimate EB salvation
