Thread: A few questions.

  1. #1

    Default A few questions.

I looked through the page and I don't see any posts adressing this, but does it take anyone else 1 minute to change between turns? In regular RTW, it makes 2 seconds to go from one turn to another, while in Europa, it takes 1 minute. Does it have to do with the map size?

Also, why is there so little activity? Many of the factions don't even do much. They just sit there until they're attacked by another faction. The only factions that I've noticed that actually do anything, are in the east. While everything west of greece, is void of any sort of activity, except for rome. (Yes, I do turn on the script every time I load the game)

Another question is, why do the independent states have so many units in each city? Each city is nearly full. Playing as Casse, it's impossible to expand. You instantly go into debt and can't do anything, 'til you send your diplomat out and get trade rights from every faction west of the black sea.

    Help, please?

The main reason the AI turns are slow is due to the script. Having somewhat long AI turns is a small price to pay for all the effects of the EB script, however.

At the very beginning of the game (and then again late in the game) the AI doesn't do much unless it is against you. This is somewhat good, historically there wheren't just 20 large factions that suddenly conquered everything in a couple years in 272BC.

Which brings me to your third question. "Rebel" towns aren't just random anarchistic wildernesses. All "rebel" areas are independant nations, many of which were quite strong but cannot be in game due to the faction limit. Britain is especially hard to unify, as it would have been for a single tribe/group historically.

Having a turn in EB only take a minute is pretty good. The reason why the turns take longer than RTW is because of the extensive script.

It depends on the campaign, however some of the slow expansion is to do with your third question. This isn't a game to blitz on, so we don't want the AI factions to do it either.

Where an independent state is powerful then it is given the military strength to represent this. The Rebel faction is generally non-expansionistic so we stick non-movable generals in their cities, which generally allows the garrisons to build up instead of empty (as the AI is wont to do).

For most factions you must either expand with existing units and go into debt for some time until your economy can catch up, or disband your units and focus on building your economy in your starting town(s).

One more question. Do I have to load the script? Will the gameplay change significantly? I noticed then when you don't load the script, the game moves by much quicker. 2 seconds to change between turns instead of a minute.

Yes you have to load the script. If you don't, you are not playing EB, you are playing RTW with new units and a bigger map.

So the game will still properly work without the script? The game is amazing, it's just that I'm impatient. The script adds a lot to the game, it's amazing, but it just takes too long.

Well without the script you won't get any reforms, you won't get any allied rebel cities, you won't get four turns per year, you won't get the AI money and population script (which stops the AI failing), you won't get the AI expanding as it should (we have to drop government buildings by script because if we don't the AI will never be able to get their factional troops). You cannot play EB without the script.

personally i go off and do something around the house as soon as i press end turn. Take dishes out of the room, gather laundry and put it in the washer. prep something to cook when im done with EB(it takes my game about 2-5minutes to go thru a turn... though ive clocked it at 8mins before!) sometimes if theres still nothing to do though, ill even do pushups till the turn finishes... keep in shape AND still play videogames. best of both worlds! weeeeerd! hahaha
