Maybe it isn't a cheat at all? For example, if you type in one of the "actual" cheats for MTW, but misspell it, do you get the same result (ie nothing)?

Yeah, if you don't type in the cheat exacly right, you get no effect at all. You have basically "ruined" all possibilities for further cheats on that turn. You will have to wait for the next turn essentially. Having said that, I personally find it very unlikely that the ".booyakasha." and ".miamivice." don't have any effect at all in MTW. Otherwise it would have been completely redundant to have the game verify the commands via SFX. Don't you think? No i'm fairly certain that the rascals do something, I just don't know what.
