Thread: Blood? Gore?

Well I'm happy for you then, Metuselah!

Maybe shocked is a bit too strong, but it seemed like the closest "realistic" depiction of violence in games at that time. The scope of the things was different than in other games, and there didn't seem (at that exact moment) to be fantasy elements inherent in other strategic games of the time.

Somehow exploding Ogres or dismembered zombies didn't ever seem that gory to me, but the guttural death screams of the peasants when a Feudal Knight unit mows them down... How utterly cynical to incorporate something like that in a game! That moved something inside of me, and had me say: "I want moarr!"

That's one reason why I'm not thrilled about "what if a flintlock-minigun-toting elephant gets hit with a rocket? Will there be a crescendo of flying intestines, that will make the infantry walking alongside the elephant covered in blood, and maybe even cover their faces with their little arms, as a fifty-kilogram hunk of dead elephaunt is about to fall on him?" type of details... Not that I'd mind, I've found Elephants merely annoying and superfluous since M2, so taking a bit of revenge on them might be nice.

Of course there were other things that seemed like a huge improvement over other strategic games: the boardgame-styled game map, the "high-brow" -feel of the game when you first look at it, and the realistic-looking tactical battle, actual battle lines, flanking moves that actually made those battle lines buckle...

Since then I've been addicted to this *darn* game series!

On a side note, there should be a feature in which you could turn captured (virtual) elephants into pies and feed them to other (virtual) elephants. As long as they aren't from Rome: Total War, because there they actually fit pretty nicely.
