Thread: Installing client kings, How?

    Default Installing client kings, How?

I've read a few AAR's here, and there I learned about installing client kings, which some players did in expansion regions. I suspect this is a family-member-like character of the relevant cultural background. I also deduced that it's something different than making a faction a protectorate. I would like to know how you can get them, are they mercenaries, bribed rival nobles, units you can build in conquered regions or something different altogether? I would very much like a detailed explaination on how to recruit these worthy men, so I can avoid "interlopers" and local autonomy does hamper economy and builds too many superfluous units---> 6 units of ascensi.... pfff I only have one in each consular army, or endless regiments of akontistai (again of which I only need 2-4 at most in the early game).

They are technically Recruitable Generals but they are automaticly spawned by script when you build a type IV government in a conquered setelment - you cant recruit them. By the way do you activate the script every time you start\load your game?
Client rulers dont help with local autonomy just turn that thing off it is much funnier to micromanage your game on your own.

ah yes, the background script. It's activated by the "show me how" button? I forget about it some times... heh, almost everytime, I click on the advisor portrait instead ... I do have trivial script installed and checked though.

You must activate the script. My brother once got pissed off while playing EB (yes i showed him it) and he said "whose this guy who keeps pestering me." He was in 265 BC or something and had never activated the script.

Yes the ingame script is essential to play EB. If you forget to activate it once and play only for a short while then it should not cause any problems, but if you play long time without it then you better start a new campaign. Trivial script is something different, it is used to start the game with certain set of preferences like lighting, single or multiplayer units, and other stuff.

If you don't activate the script for a couple for a couple of years it's not a problem any more and I'd start again, you won't get 4 turns per year and the AI factions don't work properly.

As for client rulers I only allow them to recruit native troops as private armies and be aware that when one dies he will not have any heirs, so you will have to progress to a type III or II govt. or demolish the type IV and rebuild. I always take this inter-regnum as the period most likely for a client state to rebel if it does then the Iron hand of Rome shows them the error of their ways and it becomes a fully fledged province, if not local rulers stay in place.

Watch out with some native barracks you can recruit "Generals", they will still count as interlopers and also with rebellions you can get CTDs I especially find Tuat and Garama always cause one.

It worked quite well, not only did my SPQR game move back 2 full years in time, the client king of Rhegion spawned the very next turn. I did have to destroy and rebuild the government buildings of Taras though, as the ruler still wouldn't spawn... without a ruler some towns just need a lot of garrison troops, and happiness/order buildings in addition to a low tax rate. so, I'm happy for now with the Amici, within a generation I'd upgrade governments anyway.
