    Default Hall Of Fame 2008

    Hey All,

I know it slighty early for this, but I been here for HOF 2006 and 2007, and caught the tail end of HOF 2005 (I joined right before the results got posted I think). In 1 1/2 Months it be around Mid-December.

Will the HOF be up around Mid-December/Early Januaray? I'm just curious, because longer you wait, then more people forget the good deeds of fourm members I believe.

The HoF was on it's final voting phases on the 12/01/07, the date I joined - it was only late last year because we all forgot about it (or, if we did remember, we didn't say anything).

Just something I've been thinking about the HoF, it is a little infrequent which results in actions earlier in the year being forgotten. For example, an amazing member in January whose gone a little quiet probably won't get recognized because of this. Maybe it would be an idea to hold it six monthly or even quarterly?

    Anyhow, just speculating

I know I've said this elsewhere, but I still believe it. If you hold it too frequently it becomes meaningless. Much like leadership positions at my school. It meant something 10 years ago, when there was 10/250 people with it, but now with 1 in 3?

I think keep it yearly and restrict the number of outside badges as well (keep writing contests and those types of long standing things) and by all means implement more if they are worthy, but Warman's screenshot contests with ~3 entrants? IMO no badge for something that small.

    Sorry if I offend anyone.

Hm, I see both sides of the arguement.

I agree with both opinions; the members at the start of the year who did something pretty good, now everyone's forgotten about whatever it was because it was a year ago. Then again if they've disappeared are they really worth a HoF award?

But, as said, too often makes it a swarm of awards and soon everyones got one, and its not a honor anymore.

Maybe a way where we can keep track of the good deeds people have done? Sounds like Santa Clause's good and bad list but at least the good things people did earlier in the year are remmbered.

But Monk's Poetry contest only had 2-3 contestnats, and we still gave a badge for that Pever. But I understand your point.

I understand Omanes point, and I like the idea. I am just scared that if we do it every 6 Months, it will be meanless.

Baby Boomer got good idea. To Bad we can't keep a List of People's Good/bad things.

Just a tought, but should we consider keeping the awards as an ANNUAL thing, but breaking the voting into (say) three parts?

There could be a member vote after 6 months, another member vote after the next six months, and then the adjudicators could then run their eye over the top 2 or 3 in each vote "pool" in each category to decide the award for that category.

    Just my "cracked brain" thinking.....

The story contest reward badge was created independently from the HoF badges and winning one does not make you a "HoF member".

During the very first contest we had a member, Dimeolas, contributed personalized and custom art for the winner. The runner-up was gifted a Stylized art kit from KukriKhan and were both material things. When it became clear that it was starting to become a much more official, annual event, we decided to create the story badge as an official recognition for those who have one. There were always awards for "Best story of the Mead Hall", but there was never before a badge to show off that you had won a special writing contest that we had hosted. Considering that it's an official .org event, advertised on the front page at times (not done so this season, we're experimenting with different advertising methods. ) I really don't see why it doesn't deserve its own badge reward.

The earliest contests had our best turn out by far but here in 08 we've seen some pretty good turn outs. In the spring contest there was 8 entries, the summer poetry contest had 4 entries, and currently there are only two approved entries with the Fall contest with one still under review. Add to that the deadline is still about a week and a half away so it's very possible two or three more entries will slip in before then.

I really resent the idea that the story contest is so trivial that we should not honor those who win.

Exactley. The point, Warman, is that the story and poetry is a lot harder to do that take a print screen in Total War, which really just take some setting up and timing.

Being a covert entry into the Spring Contest, I can say even my pitiful entry took me a decent amount of time.
