3/5 the official campaign trailer, watch!
Does this mean that forts are actually going to be USEFUL this time around?
I dont habeeb it.
Tallyho lads, rape the houses and burn the women! Leave not a single potted plant alive! Full speed ahead and damn the cheesemongers!
If you place a fort near some mines or other natural resource, Id say yeah, gotta go through the fort to capture the resources. Although they look mighty expensive, you can't just drop a star fortress anywhere unlike MTW2 where I think 200 gold was enough to set up a wooden keep.
It seems like they integrated FMV with game play or is it just me? It adds a more cinematic experience, it's quite nice.
Interesting to see those non-European units at the end, Native Americans and Middle Eastern people (and their elephants)
Gotta love that tomahawk at the end, ha ha ha.
What left me wondering was what is video four and five going to be about?

Although I fear I will be disappointed, this has the potential to be the best total war game since MTW.
(crosses fingers)
Aww, those star forts don't look like real star forts.Oh well graphics sells, just like sex, I just hope that content will be decent at least.

I wonder how exactly the whole Capital thing pans out, seeing the different size of provinces. Aside from some eye candy and the layout of provinces not much new information. Well, the star fort thing, I guess.![]()

How did you beat Martok and Nelson in finding this sweet vid? Lol!![]()
Looks jawdroppingly amazing!
One thing though - how do settlements work. France has one, Mexico has one, and yet there are sevearal for the Baltic states?
At the end of the day politics is just trash compared to the Gospel.
Yeah, I find that very confusing(and frightening, too).
The baltic states have many settlements since they consist of many nations. France is one united country, therefore, one settlement. Denmark-Norway is in a union, so both those countries have one settlement each even though they appear as one faction. The Swedish Empire is... well... its an empire. It consists of conquered settlements. And besides, its the largest faction in northern Europe and second largest in entire Europe consequently having more regions. Sweden conquered some regions from Russia, so I assume thats why St. Petersburg is a settlement even though it belongs to Sweden. Finland is a settlement in the Swedish Empire which is partly autonomous. My guess is that they are also leaving the doors open to revolutions etc in those settlements making it harder for the Swedish Empire to control its many regions. The same goes for Denmark-Norway which isnt the most stable union.
Disturbing is the fact that St. Petersburg wasnt founded until 1703 during the the Great Northern War, AFTER the Russians conquered the region from Sweden. And the game starts 1700, right? So the question isnt why it belongs to Sweden, the question is why its even there. Or are they pretending that the city was named Saint Petersburg by the swedes? Why would they name a city after their enemy? Which they ofcourse did not. It was Tsar Peter the Great who named the city St. Petersburg.

Why would France only be composed of one territory, though? Considering it was a major power at the time, I would imagine it to be composed of two or three... Oh whatever, it must all work out somehow.Originally Posted by Pinxit
Because France is one country.
Look at Spain, it has 2 capital cities because it controls Portugal and Spain, Great Britain has 3 for England, Scotland and Ireland etc etc.
But I'm sure that as the game moves on that the countries won't be so empty when they are filled with small towns, mines, ports, farms and other things that you need to control in other to capture the land.

I dont think those are settlements. I think they are capitals.
CA has already stated that there will be several settlements per territory. But then here it seems that there is only one piece of territory per country. Take the capital and you take the entirety of that country's land?
Would love to get CA in here to comment...
Yeah, any comments from CA would be much appreciated...
I really need to know how the new province system works. And about the multiple settlements per province, I can't help but wonder if each little individual settlement is both capturable and garrisonable. (sp?)
Hm army movement and turn sequence seems to be the same as older titles. I guess the preview mentioning "Even commands are streamlined so that orders are issued and then moves made, thus speeding up turn time." was not the way we thought...

Well I think that if you take the capital, then you control that which is a blow for the enemy but you don't control the land.
You need to control the towns and resources as well to have total control over the land.
Like here for example
Where it says "Urban Growth".
When that bar is full, there will no doubt be a new town that appears on the map that the enemy needs to control as well.

it looks too awesome... I'm really hoping they pull this one off as good as it looks... and I really hope I somehow can afford a new PC, 'cause this game'd kill mine...
stop it at 43 seconds and you'll see some of the diplomacy, things like trade rights not needing to be both ways i.e looks like you can demand trade off a country, but don't need to give it yourself!
other options like technology diplomat bar was interesting too, perhaps it could include sharing countries developments and resources!
at 48 seconds, its hard to see as the tab goes quick but it looks like you can only go into a region if your at war with someone, it says 'you do not have rights to this region, choose an option, declare war or cancel move' so this shows that the computer can only go on your land in war! a get the hell outta my land option at last!
stop att 1:22 and you'll see the amount of population has rose massively, madrid has 6 million, so realistic, or perhaps far-fetched population figures are in place at least! also here, public order for different classes is evident! green background for happy class, and orange/red for unhappy by the looks of it, a lot of income too, hopefully they'll be plenty of money in the game!
1:34 nice new building panel, tells u the level off the building too, quite sassythe type and the graphics makes it easy to access and looks nice too, i wonder what the infrastructure element will bring too.... at 1:36 we see the panel for a farm too, alot of new benefits have been put in place it seems aswell as a farm trait saying 'produces sheep' wow so perhaps things like even sheep can be resource for trade! after that it goes to a war factory with research elements! how cool...
from 2:37 onwards some nice pics of the continents! this looks awesome, i hope the release date is brought forward, though i doubt it, and to think they may still be working on it, this could be one hell of a good game!![]()
I think the populaion number is for the entire Region not just the Capital City of the Region.
"The fruit of too much liberty is slavery", Cicero
any ideas how many people lived in SPain at that time?
Everything looks good, very very good. I just can't wait to try out the demo.......
One point though, why does every menu look plainer that it's M2TW counterpart? I mean they seem to somehow lack colour.....or is it just me?
The horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.
Okay. Here are some interesting bits of info I got from the movie (more or less in order of appearence)
- At 0.39 you can see an option to ‘Exempt region from tax’.
- The diplomacy screen at 0.44 shows protectorates are in the game.
- At 00.53 you can see a News Icon on the left of the screen.
- Most of North America looks like uncolonised territory (its colour on the mini map is a standard grey) this suggests it can be colonised.
- There is also a town in Canada apparently named Moose Factory.
- At 1.18 We can see the flag of the Papacy, as well as Venice and a flag I am assuming belongs to Florence (off centre red cross on white background)
- At 1.21 the tooltip (top left of screen) reads:
Militias
An ungarrisoned city automatically generates Militia to keep order. Although not effective during an insurrection as billeted light infantry, such as dragoons. Militia are well able to manage day to day public order problems. They cannot leave the city in which they were spawned.
- At 1.28 Expenditure seems to come in three categories. Army Upkeep and Navy Upkeep are self explanatory, but the third one is Town Watch. You can also see ‘State Religion.’
- 1.28 Also lists Britain’s victory conditions as ‘Hold the highest Prestige rating at the end of year 1799.
- 1.32 Shows Austria is a playable faction. We also see a Green and White flag (top and bottom) with some kind of yellow central decoration.
- 1.37 The construction scroll lists where a building will be built (in the capital, in the countryside or in a town)
- 1.37 The building Peasant Farms gives the following bonuses:
*Reduces chance of food shortages
*+ 100 to region wealth.
*Produces sheep.
*0.5% to population growth.
- 1.43 We can see three flags. Poland Lithuania, Prussia, and a third in the top right behind the Eurogamer text.
- 1.47 Battle map looks damn good. Also there is a unit with 160 men in it. Cavalry units have 40 men. General has 60.
- 1.55 That wall looks really bad compared to the detailed textures in Medieval 2.
- 2.02 You can see a variety of different forts can be built (looks like stockade and wooden fort. The wooden fort is listed with a number 2 and costs 1500. Looks like an upgrade tree for forts).
- 2.12. The rake has a 'Command on Land' ranking of two stars.
I hope all that was useful for people, because it took several watches of the video for me to notice it all.Enjoy.
