Thread: Taking Screenshots

    Default Taking Screenshots

Is there any method, where I can take screen shots whilst playing Rome Total War and having them automatically placed within a specific location, ie. a Folder. Also, is this possible for certain modifications, eg. Europa Barborum, rather then alt-tabbing between Rome and Paint.

Yes, and it's built into the game.

To take screenshot you have to first press the "Print Screen" keys.

The screenshot is then saved and stored by default in either "C:/Program Files/Activision/Rome - Total War/tgas" if you have standard R:TW (not Gold) and in "C:/Program Files/The Creative Assembly/Rome - Total War/tgas" if you do have Gold. In the case of mods which use the modswitcher, such as EB, they will be stored in a subfolder off the main R:TW directory with the additional path being "[mod name]/tgas".

After that you may notice that you cannot open these files, them being in the .tga format. Even if you can open them, you will need to convert them to standard file formats to upload and use them online.

To open them you need to covert them to .jpgs or a similar format using a converter program. Infranview is the most popular, although there are alternatives that can be found by searching Google. If you have a program that can open and save in the .tga format already, you can just save the image as another format to fix the problem.

You may also be interested in using FRAPs, another way of storing screenshots where you want to store them. It's commertial software, but the free version does basic jobs ok.

    Good luck
