What does it take to make a good AAR?

A fair few people don't post a lot in other people's AARs (myself included) simply because we don't want to clutter up the thread with replies, which, for me, get in the way of reading the actual content.

I am also one of those people, I usually only post when an AAR begins to let the person know I will be following.
I have noticed that, although I get few posts, when I put up a new chapter in my AAR the views shoots up, so that would probably be the best way to gauge whether people are following.
