@ desert: Have you never heard of the Empress Zoe of Constantinople? Around the year 1056 she was crown after her brother was "removed". She fell in love with Harald Haldgraad, whom wandered Eurpoe before he went home to claim his throne. This same Viking crippled Saxon England JUST before William invaded, (Battles of Stamford Bridge and York, 1066).
