Hi Phalanx, this should be easy to solve....

The ONLY way you can ever get that particular error message is when you have installed basic Redux upon a VI/V.2.01 engine AND did not apply the VI-upgrade (at least properly or successfully). Basic Redux/Module A alone can not run on a V.2.01 engine and the Papist-message is the exact message for all such attempts. You must have the Redux VI-upgrade/module B installed as well - on top (and this installed last of all).

There is no other way to get that message. Thus that is exactly problem here. Once you apply the VI-upgrade as well (successfully) - Redux will then work just fine. If you indeed can run XL or whatever - you WILL be able to run Redux on that machine - that is practically guaranteed. Redux does work better on most newer hardware then XL does. I doubt your hardware is somehow unique on this note.

    1. Install a fresh copy of MTW (wherever you want it) and patch it to V.2.01 (if need be).
    2. Install basic Redux (module A) on top of that fresh MTW-install.
    3. THEN you install the Redux VI-upgrade (module B) on top of that basic Redux install (successfully).
    4. Start game...

Basically, see the provided instructions in post:24 (this thread) and follow them EXACTLY (do not deviate somehow) and then there should not be any further problems on this. You will be playing Redux in no time. The details about files and modules are outlined in post:23 (also this thread). If still in doubt somehow, read those posts all over again...

Hey! thanks Axalon for your reply. You were right something must have went wrong or I did something wrong the first time. I closely followed your instructions and it works! Thank you so much. This is great! I am enjoying MTW all over again. MTW2 is cool, but MTW1 has that addictive just one more turn feeling that MTW2 did not give me. I even like the old graphics better haha! Now I am having fun again!

    C:\Program Files (x86)\The Creative Assembly\Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition
    C:\Program Files (x86)\The Creative Assembly\Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition

i did check if the game is working. fresh install, quick battle, working. version checked.

    extracted rar-files base and upgrade
marked, copied, pasted base in "Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition", overwrite all
marked, copied, pasted upgrade in "Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition", overwrite all
clicking the Medieval-TW.EXE (nocd) it brings up
that the MSVCR100.dll is missing on the system
    no start

Updating the thread for RXB1004.... Now, if you get one of these messages....

Means that you have not been reading the provided instructions and are trying to run Redux without
the VI-upgrade on a VI/v.2.01-game. To fix it, download a copy of the RXB1004 VI-upgrade ("module
B") ASAP and install it on top (as in last) - and you will be playing Redux in no time...

I did found out my mistake, and I put it here to help others... The folder Redux VI - upgrade has two folders inside, one is named Redux total war and the other redux VI bonus materials... They have to open and copy - paste thier files to the install - copy folder, not just copied as folders...

    Hello there,

I have searched through the forums for an answer to this, but bear with me if I overlooked it. New to these parts.

I have gone through the redux installation step by step, made sure the files were in the in the quickstart folder to confirm, etc. But when I go to start the game, either by shortcut or directly from the .exe, it will not load. Meaning I get the cursor indication that it is reading the file, but then it just stops. Never even leaves my desktop. I have tried restarting, and running as admin as well.

    MTW version 1.1, Windows 7 64bit.

Sorry if I missed any needed info, and any help at all is appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi MTM,

First, can you run the basic/raw game at all? If yes, then this (your problem) is an install-matter somehow - and we can (and probably will) solve it. If you can run the basic game, then you can run Redux - guaranteed. Its just a matter of time (and determination). If the answer is no, then it might be a matter of drivers (or possibly even hardwere) - until these change you will get nowhere fast. Redux might be magic, but can only go so far on new hardwere... That is the short version of things. So...

Can you run the basic/raw MTW at all? Y/N?

Yes, with some effort I can get in to run, but not functionally. I can get the program to open, but it crashes as soon as it tries to load a new game to the strategic map.
