Is there something that is slowing down the new version of EB? It seems to run a lot slower on my computer than 1.0. (it take about 10 minutes just for the main menu to load). If there is can something be done about it?

Have you tried more than once? The first time loading always takes a lot of time.

Yes. Each time it takes about 10-15 minutes for the main menu to load and another 5-10 min for the campaign map (either from the main menu or from the battle map). And I am also using the tips for making EB run faster I found here on the forum. 1.0 still ran slowly but it is worse now.
When we add things it does get slower. However the only big thing we added, afaik, is the client ruler script which only slows down turn times. Perhaps defragging the harddrive might help.

Also upgrading your computer hardware like the graphics card, RAM and processor are well worth the investment. I used to have huge problems with loading times and CTD's because it took so much of computers capabilities up to run EB. Now that I've bought and fitted faster and bigger hardware it runs very smoothly and the initial loading screen takes about 1-1.5 minutes after computers warmed up.
And, these things arent that expensive to buy, especialy if you buy them second hand. There should be a shop in most city centres that does this sort of thing, and it's well worth a few weeks pocket money.

I have been thinking of upgrading my ram from 525 to 2 GB (the maximum possible for my laptop) because it wouldn't be so expensive. But at the moment I don't have the money (maybe I'll give myself a Christmas present). As for the graphics card I've been told by a knowledgeable friend that it's almost impossible to upgrade it.
Oh and I've managed to get it to work at an acceptable speed with a bit of tinkering in the BIOS (the knowledgeable friend did that) and an update to my graphics driver.
Laptops are far harder to upgrade due to lack of space and the size of the components. If you want your EB to run as best as possible, use a PC. However if its working now, its up to you.

i just ran EB against my stopwatch...
from the time the EB spash screen shows to the time the main menu appeared-- 1m, 42s
from main menu to campaign map-- 20s

Thats not designed to be showing off, thats proving that it works

Well I'll see about upgrading my RAM but since games are secondary to real life I think I'll just tolerate the slow loading speeds. Thanks everybody.
To see if your laptop supports upgrading (not all laptops do, as some of them are constructed in very efficient but impossible to re-assemble ways...) look in the manual of your laptop.
EDIT: @Bovi: I think he meant 3GB of RAM, and not 2 which means it's the well-known limitation of 32bit processors. That's not outdated, yet.![]()

I already checked and it is upgradeable (two slots for RAM memory, of which one is unused). I din mean 2 GB of RAM. I don't know anything about limitations but I wouldn't want to spent too much on this. In fact 2 GB seems a lot to me.

3GB arises from the fact that 4GB needs to house:
Available RAM;
BIOS ROM;
GFX RAM;
And any other memory mapped device...
So in practice, with a reasonably powerful PC 4GB actually boils down to like 3-3.5GB of RAM.
