Documentaries ! I Like Them !

I'm not sure whether this belongs to the science section. Please correct the placement if it's so. Anyway here it goes.

I've recently been hooked up with eyecandy and quality documentaries.

Preferably mostly about the nature, what are your favorite documentary productions which are dazzling to both watch and hear ? (I guess that means to refer to relatively newly shot ones, especially through this decade)

I'm a big fan of Planet Earth -in order to clear up with what I'd like to see-.

P.S. If it's a very solid one to watch, feel free to recommend a documentary of any genre.

All the David Attenborough oeuvre.
The World At War - the definitive documentary of WW2.
The Civil War - the American Civil War.

There's a programme or series on the Gulf War, and one on the Arab-Israeli Wars, which were also excellent, but whose names I've forgotten.

And, of course, The Old Negro Space Program.

I want to be able to obtain HD DVDs of those productions. I want to see it sharp and clear. It should be that new. Sorry for my misguidance.

By far best documentary of WWII (I've seen so far) is the Battlefield series, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlef...entary_series). No interviews, no gimmicks, most of scenes are actual images of war not from movies or post imagined replays, concentrates on hard cold facts, tactics and strategy.

Few tips, Deep Blue, The Traveling birds, Microcosmos, Bear, all breathtakingly beautifull.

Kewl forgot all bout World at War, used to have it on laserdisc, I remember it having great music.

If you can find it, try Cousins, which is definitely eye candy, albeit not in HD. Erm, I'm talking about the wildlife photography of course. Plus it has a whole episode on prosimians, which makes it even more suitable for the Frontroom.

Oh! How could I forget about Shoah, this is really impressive, what sets it apart is that it is really hours and hours of interviews and it's like making your way through an archive, at first. After a while you strart to realise that it is covered from just about every perspective, not just the prisoner but also the guardkeeper and that the documentary is not a lose collection of interviews on certain events but a deliberate attempt to give the broadest perspective possible. It's absolutily fascinating it will leave you speechless I promise, every bit as tight in focus as World at War but a completily different aproach, a pain to watch but watch it anyway.
