    Default Gunpowder, treason and plot.

It's that time of the year when we gorge on parkin and treacle toffee......and most importantly set off fireworks until your neighbours ears bleed.

Have a good one guys and, hey, remember, let's be careful out there....

    Roll on the 5th.

There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

I saw the very end, but all I remember was the great music and show. No dates remembered.

Definitely one of my favorite movies. I love Hugo Weaving's rendition of the poem near the beginning of the film.

So how thorough is the search for bombs now a days? Is it just a quick and routine 'ceremonial' search or do they really check with dogs and what not?

Stage two, we say something may be about to happen, but we should do nothing about it.
Stage three, we say that maybe we should do something about it, but there's nothing we can do.
Stage four, we say maybe there was something we could have done, but it's too late now.

Most interesting... I am a direct descendant of Guy Fawkes actually.

After WWI my grandfather changed his last name to "Kent-Fawkes" because just having it "Fawkes" caused him so much grief overseas. Here in Canada no one cares too much.

I was sure suprised when I saw that movie "V" a few years ago, but I will decline to comment. ... As we all know: if you watch pirated movies on a crappy computer your opinion counts for nothing. ;)

This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-à-vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V."

Can we have your permission to burn you alive. You don't have to, but think of the poor children who I will only get to see Icelandic bankers burnt(or melted) to death.

I miss the fireworks. The school I went to in the UK would always put on a great show. But the massive bonfires were always the best, using plenty of petrol.

If the rest of the movie is as interesting as the end, I'd recommend it. End was quite a nice show.

Also, thanks, IA, for the clarification.

No. The protagonist in V for Vendetta, V (his true name and face are never actually revealed), wears a porcelin Guy Fawkes mask. And the same cloths that are always associated with him, just all black. He also appropriated his plot, blow up parliment on nov 5. Good movie, definately worth watching. Based on the comic by Alan Moore.

V for Vendetta is a great movie no doubt, I just wished they'd picked someone else for Evee (or whatever it's spelled like) than Natalie Portman........something else, why are those masks called Guy Fawkes masks?
    And, err....Happy Guy night? :)

Gah, missed this thread on the Fifth. I watch V For Vendetta every November 5 (well, since 2006 anyways), it's sort of like a tradition now.

Agreed. I've no problem with Natalie Portman, but she couldn't sustain a British accent at all. One particularly awfully-delivered line was when she said "I'm starving, actually." Makes me wince every time.

something else, why are those masks called Guy Fawkes masks?
Because they have the likeness of Guy Fawkes?
