Foot/moderator, If you feel that this isn't something that we should discuss in the EB community, then by all means, shut it down before it gets off the ground.
Well, the USA elections are finally over, thank God. I'm realllllly sick of political ads right now. It truly is amazing that an African American finally made it all the way to the top w/o getting killed... ANYHOW... I was thinking it might be nice, in light of the election, to have a discussion about that hated topic...AMERICA. I was possibly hoping to direct the discussion some by posting a daily topic. For those of you who are interested, I am a moderate/conservative (Independent), and i have very little trust in either party (Republicans/Democrats for those non-americans who don't know).
So...rules of thumb:
1)Please refrain from making excessively radical statements without any reason or information to back it up, or any statement in such a manner (a given)
2)No insulting other people for their views, rather, try to be intelligent and show them why they are wrong without degrading them (another given)
Tonights/Today's topic (depending on where you live):
I thought this should open with a more broad topic: What do you think about the election and its results? What do you think about the canidates themselves? Personally, I'm particularly interested in hearing from non-americans.
My view (summed up) is this:
Both canidates were not the right men for the job. Obama is intelligent, and charismatic but has very little experience, and some serious moral issues with me (lets keep the details of morality out of at least this discussion). There is a lot of potential for him to be manipulated in foriegn politics if he is not careful, and he doesn't seem to have a firm grasp on how politics and the economy react to being played around with. McCain, while intelligent, is not very shrewd or charsimatic, but has plenty of experience and the wisdom of age. He also had a 2/3 chance of dieing in office, leaving us with yet another inexperienced leader. In addition i have a few moral issues with him as well. It is true that i haven't followed McCain as closely as I would have liked, so I have less to say on him.
TO end this lengthy post, all that i ask is that you ask God to bless America (if your the religious sort) or to wish America a little good luck in the coming years, 'cause frankly, I think we're gonna need it.![]()
