I still vividly remember the day I walked into a McDonalds in the 80s and ordered my favourite sandwich at the time - the McChicken sandwich. The girl behind the counter stared at me strangely and said "We don't have them anymore." My world stopped. I don't know how long I stared at her blankly, trying to comprehend what she just said. I don't remember what I ordered instead. I didn't care either. My beloved McChicken sandwich was gone.
McDonalds reintroduced the McChicken sandwich many years later. I was briefly excited, but the passion was gone and I realized there was a hole in my heart. It is chicken breast shaped, breaded, with lettuce and mayo. It is a whole that can no longer be filled.
