I've seen your Luger in the picture thread. It's pretty neat stuff. Do you have the German Stg 44... I believe it's called?

Ahh I wish. Gun laws have messed up the market for anything automatic in both America and Europe. Here, automatics have artificially increased drastically in price because it's difficult to impossible for your average dealer to import them. On the other hand, gun control and storage laws in much of Europe has driven the price of autos way down as most casual collectors don't want to go through the hassle and expense of owning them.

Assuming I could find one in the US that had matching serials and was in good condition, I'd have to drop around 15k, but in Europe I've read of very good condition STGs going for only around 1.5k.

Of course one would think that the simple solution would be to simply pick one up next time I'm in Europe, but getting a fully automatic assault rifle into America creates its own set of issues.

I'll get one at some point though... Also on the expensive and hard to come by list: MG34 & 42.

No StG44 is going for anywhere near $1,500 if it's original. I think $15,000 might even be on the low end of an estimate (I've seen $22,000 as a serious medium range).

I collect WWII militaria. I have a lot of medals, badges, photos, helmets, uniforms, and other assorted goodies. Cost me an arm and a leg though, but a good investment in something that will (or at least never has) never go down in value.
