Default AW: NationStates 2 is open to the Public

The Principality of Kleinstrom is a tiny, easy-going nation, remarkable for its wariness of politicians. Its population of 1.03 million citizens are either ruled by a small, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which. The average national tax rate is 18.33%.

Sheep roam the roads dodging cars and amorous farmers. Several (about seven) small, pick-wielding men with a penchant for pale, sleepy women have emigrated here. Leather-skinned former sunbathers protest the widespread use of solar cells.

The populace is incredibly well-fed by its budding gourmet culture. The country is renowned for being very well-dressed. Only the top percentile of healthy drivers are given the privilege of being organ donors thanks to the abundance of medical supplies. The country has become famous for its well stocked silos of materials feeding industries all that they require. An abundance of energy has turned tales of appliances blinking "12:00" into urban legends. Workers are known for their incredible punctuality thanks to the world-class supply of transportation. More and more elite officers are graduating from military training. The country is known for its new renaissance of entertainment art.

Kleinstrom's fearless leader resides in the nation's capital of Neuschwanstein, making grand decisions typically with a pet Eagle curled-up on the carpet.

Four stage strategy from Yes, Minister:
Stage one we say nothing is going to happen.
Stage two, we say something may be about to happen, but we should do nothing about it.
Stage three, we say that maybe we should do something about it, but there's nothing we can do.
Stage four, we say maybe there was something we could have done, but it's too late now.

By the way, everyone, Arach and I are part of an Australian alliance on world 79, but I also formed an alliance separately with Arach so far called the Backroom Mutual Defense Pact (BMDP). So if anyone, even if you already play primarily on another world, wants to run with us on 79 with a separate nation, that'd be cool.

Erm, I just got blockaded by someone I have never interacted with before. Is this usual? Should I expect random hostility from someone going down a list of countries in their world and picking ones to start fights with?

There Is no war yet, but I believe that random acts of war are a real threat if you don't enter into an alliance or two.

Ah, nationstates. I'm still chugging along on NS1, i guess it's time to drag the United Soviet States of Nepolonia kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

Dictatoria is a continent and you can leave continents for others if you want. I think you need to be on the same world for alliances though and that can't be changed without creating a new account.

Since I have lots better to do with my time, I decided to waste it anyway by writing a history for my nation.

    The Holy Empire of Dornsaete

Motto: “For God, Emperor and Cheese”
    Government type: Psychotic Dictatorship
    GDP: 12.00 million Oooh arghs
    Population: 1.00 million citizens
    Land: maritime
    Continent: Australia in World 63
    Newspaper: Dornsaete Gazette
    Civil Rights: Some
    Economic Freedoms: Few
    Political Freedoms: Few

The Holy Empire of Dornsaete is a tiny, moderately restrictive nation, remarkable for its tight restrictions on politicians. Its population of 1.08 million citizens are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings." The average national tax rate is 37.50%.

Bakers peddle their surplus bread. Air-freshener salesmen peddle their wares to fish-scented patrons. Dams have appeared in local streams and rivers, not all of them named for cleaning appliances.

Dornsaete's fearless leader resides in the nation's capital of Casterbridge, making grand decisions typically with a pet Wyvern curled-up on the carpet.

Long, long ago in the mists of time, came our forebears to our island home Dornsaete. Though modern archeological evidence points to the fact that Dornsaete was already inhabited by some unknown race, these unfortunate people are now extinct in Dornsaete, having all been killed, enslaved or driven away by our ferocious ancestors.

Though originally a loose federation of tribes, it was not before long that, after a series of bloody skirmishes, marriages and questionable cases of food poisoning, Dornsaete tended to the natural and God–given natural order of strong central government, and in the 8th century at Casterbridge Aethelbert the Hard of Hearing was crowned Emperor of all the Dornsaetes. Dornsaete owes much to the great Aethelbert, including our first code of law, our army, our navy and our motto (and hence our cheese–making industry, 7th in the world), which he conceived after hearing a rousing lesson by the Archbishop of Casterbridge in 789 about the Sermon on the Mount. Owing to an unfortunate mishearing, Aethelbert was convinced that his Worship had said that “blessed are the cheesemakers”, and ever since Dornsaete has been devoted to its thousands of varieties of cheeses that it produces.

This devotion has however caused problems on occasion, most notably the Great Cream Cheese Debate of the 16th century. Emperor Edmund the Sour–Faced proclaimed that cream cheese was not really cheese, pronounced it anathema and imposed a heavy tax on the production. Perbuck, with its capital of Philadelphia, produced a quarter of the world’s cream cheese, and resented its produce being sniffed at. After the death of Edmund and the succesion of Thulstan the Crook Fingered, a die–hard opponent of cream cheese ever since an unfortunate bagel incident at the age of 13, Perbuck rebelled and invited the Emperor’s younger brother, Osbert the Mildly Tipsy to form a seperate kingdom. A bloody, inconclusive civil war followed, killing many Dornsaetians and cows. Perbuck remained independent under their branch of the House of Aethelbert for almost a century, until the last member of that branch died after eating an over–ripe piece of Gouda.

After his death, the Treaty of Wensleydale was signed, revoking the anathema and abolishing the tax against cream cheese and re–uniting Perbuck with the rest of the Holy Empire. Ever since, Dornsaete has been at peace, and continues to be ruled wisely and justly by its imperial family who, with the help of their advisors, are sure that they know what is best for the people of Dornsaete.

I think I was a little too extreme in the questionnaire part, hence "psychotic dictatorship". Over time, I hope to correct this to a "Father Knows Best" kind of state.

Using that logic, I could move all threads and posts about Victoria and Hearts of Iron II into the monastery. 'Cause, yanno, it's about history.
A game is still a game. And there are already threads in the Arena about NationStates, so why not NS2?

If a patron wishes to post about a game (which has political issues involved) in the Backroom because they feel friends and colleagues will be interested, there is no problem with that. This is not a competition for traffic.

It is perfectly possible to have a thread here that does not have expletives, confrontation, and tears.

The Most Serene Republic of All is a tiny, moderate nation, remarkable for its harmony between citizens and politicians. Its population of 1.00 million citizens have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often. The average national tax rate is 25.00%.

Air-freshener salesmen peddle their wares to fish-scented patrons. Sheep roam the roads dodging cars and amorous farmers. Dams have appeared in local streams and rivers, not all of them named for cleaning appliances.

All's fearless leader resides in the nation's capital of Capital City, making grand decisions typically with a pet Hippogryph curled-up on the carpet.
