Good luck with your project

Although the game is not even out yet, I think the modding community should wait till the game is out to see what can and can't be modded, IMO.

Good luck. British intervention should be really minimal. The British campaigns were done by the British East India Company (BEIC) using Indian Forces. Therefore Red Coats and any such units should really be rare.

Did the BEIC's Soldiers not wear the standard red coat of the Army though? Only with the Company Insignia? I Would be very suprised if Empire(The real game, not any Mod) featured British troops in India, appearing dressed differently, to Soldiers in Other parts of the British world of the time.

Ethnic British brigades (e.g. Regular Metropolitan British Army) still wore the red coats for which British troops are known. However, native troops (Colonial Sepoy Armies) weren't dressed in red coats. While there were some units uniformed in such a colour, most others weren't. That said, while time passed by, the majority of the troops in BEIC were increasingly native Indians, while Regular Troops were a minority.
For distinction purposes, in E:TW, I'm sure Colonial Indian troops will have red coats to show the player they belong to the UK.

I meant that if the mod would be historical, we wouldn't see armies of "Red Coats" (e.g. European British Units), but rather mostly Colonial Indian Units

I'd make the distinction of different types of units in 3: between Regular (European troops using top Military Tactics and Technology), Colonial (Native but with part of Regular Tactics and Technology) and Native (Princedoms and Troops from "Uncivilized Countries" who possess no units with modern Tactics and Technology)

It sounds interesting.

As far as Red coats, I'd assume the british will have other infantry units then just redcoats. Maybe a you capture this area you get unit A type deal, who knows.

So while I don't think in the unit itself brittish redcoats would look drastically different (Like I doubt there's a unit of redcoats and militia mixture unit.) I assume you'll probably be able to train a group of redcoats and a group of local units to achieve desired affect/unit.

Well I hope the game is as moddable as you hope it is.

Assuming it is, how are Opium Wars handled.

Is it like a event where suddenly certain factions have lots of armies?
or is it just a event where suddenly different cities have something?
or is it a trade thing, where you just gain huge benefits if you can deal with the pirates, locals, etc.

Some historical dates concerning the the Vietnamese side:
Le Dynasty 1428 (end of Ming occupation of Vietnam) to 1788 (Qing invasion of Vietnam).
Siam-Viet conflict of 1780 (naval battle on the Mekong).
Nguyen Tay-Son Dynasty 1788 to 1802.
Nguyen Dynasty 1802-1945.

The distinction is important if you consider Siam-Viet relation. During the Le Dynasty, Viet expanded South and ended the Kingdom of Champa, bringing Viet closer to Siam. Siam-Viet relation was mostly through extending each influence over Laos. The later part of Le Dynasty had Civil War between many factions.

While technically under Le Dynasty, the Siam-Viet conflict over Cambodia was fought by Nguyen Tay-Son faction. Siam (lead by King P'ya Taksin) backed the founder of Nguyen Dynasty (Nguyen Anh, head of the Nguyen Faction) fought with Tay Son (lead by Nguyen Hue) in 1780. A revolt in 1782 ended P'ya Taksin and Nguyen Tay-Son faction was busy fighting other factions and the Qing army, so both sides were not able to escalate the conflict further.

During the first part of the Nguyen Dynasty (from 1802 to 1858), Viet consolidated their gains over Cambodia: the Lower Cambodia became Viet provinces, the upper Cambodia became a Viet protectorate.

Itll be handled like an in-game event, with a message for all factions and the British and Qing Chinese going to war with one another. The AI will then proceed to carry out the actions and events in the war as historically accurate as possible. The majority of it will be naval battles, the British iron clads against the Chinese Junks. If you play as the Chinese or the British then you can take steps to avoid the war. This goes in with the concept that you steer your faction however you want, and the AI will go along a set path unless you interfere.

I like the idea a lot but I have to be picky & say that the title ain't
that catchy, I think it maybe should be changed, but good luck on
mod anyway, I still haven't been able to get the equipment to mod..
