Google Earth Ancient Rome

Anyone had a chance to have a look at this yet? http://earth.google.com/rome/

From what I've seen so far it's pretty amazing. I can see many hours of not working ahead...

I keep using RTW controls to try to move around the city! Double-clicking doesn't get you there any faster!

Well... there is Roma Victor. http://roma-victor.com
Its not exactly Second life, but still its a realistic MMORPG.

Hahahaha! I went to their website and it says that it is a "historically authentic game". The thing is that, even before going to their website, one can notice a mistake. What I am talking about is the fact that the title of the game is "Roma Victor", whereas it should be "Roma Victirix", since "Roma" is feminine. That's a pretty bad mistake, and I am wondering as to how an entire game can be "historically authentic" if even their title is ahistorical. I wonder where they got their historical info/advisors.

I gotta agree with Hax on this one. Be careful what you wish for! Only the most hard-core Roman historian could bear a life in Rome. Antiquity, or the Roman Empire/Republic is fun... for a couple of weeks, or maybe a month. Then you begin realizing how bad you're craving for a computer (EB!), good book, a cold refreshing soda, soft & comfortable bed, no lice, non-spoiled meat, friendly people, sweets, a bath/shower, fresh clothing, television and just easy, comfortable life of a 21st-century American in general (supposing that you are an American, Pontius Pilate). Life in Rome was not all that glorious, rather the opposite and neither was it all about the Roman Military and Lorica Segmentata (

), which you wouldn't really get to see as much of anyway.

Seriously, Americans have the easiest lives in the world, with Swedes probably being the runners-up (or even sharing the first place). I've been to almost every country in Europe, talked to people from Sweden, lived and still live in America (about 4 years now) so you can trust me on this.

Well not all Americans have easy lives, their are ALOT of poor people in the U.S., just like any other country. Sure it's not like a third world place, but there are alot of people who go hungry every night and who live in poverty (like in the projects and getthos(spelling??)). It would just be false to say that all Americans act and live like movie stars or Hollywood. Of course alot of people live in the suburbs and are middle class, which I do admit, is very, very easy living, well most of the time.

Anyway, well when I imagine living in ancient Rome I always imagine being an emperor or some very rich Patrician, or general on campaign. Come to think of it, being a commoner or being poor in Antiquity would be a hard life indeed, now that I think of it. Still though, now matter how many movies I watch, books I read, or games I play about Antiquity, I always feel that I am missing something from the picture, like I'm not getting the whole experience.

I live in US and I know how it is here. I also lived for 10 years of my 15-year (almost 16 and I am an 11th grader BTW) life in Europe. I am a five-year subscriber of National Geographic and I have almost every NG issue from 1970. Yes I collect them. I have spent every summer since I was five years old traveling across various countries. Trust me, nowhere is it easier to become successful than in America if you just work hard from the beginning of your high-school years.

For example, there are hundreds of millions of various scholarships in US for academically talented, economically disadvantaged, or for just various ethnicities/nationalities. Education up to college is free. School is incredibly easy in here compared to Russia. I get straight A's in advanced classes with almost no effort (except for Math, which I actually have to work on). If you are not mentally/physically disabled, get good education and you are hard-working, then you will have a very wholesome life in the United States. In South Korea, for instance, students study for an entire year, giving themselves only the Sundays off and only four hours of sleep for just college entrance exams!!! It is very similar in China and Japan, although it is a little bit easier than in South Korea.

If you are healthy and poor in US, then you are lazy or weak-willed, a druggie/alcoholic, or an irresponsible slut who has sex outside of marriage. The only exception is a woman who was abandoned by her husband or elderly people/young children.

I was not so much saying that America is an easy place to live in as I was emphasizing how easy it is in comparison. However, if you think that American life is hard, then you either don't know a lot about foreign countries, soft, or just plain lazy.
