I logged quite a bit of time in playing MTW2, and I can tell you that weapon models do change when weapons are upgraded. On swords it's not always noticeable, but play a custom battle with with two units of cossak musketeers, one upgraded and one not, and you'll see that their muskets are different. A few of the other obvious ones are halberdiers of any sort, two handed axemen, and the maces of Gothic and Teutonic knights.

weapon models do indeed change, but this is part of the armour upgrade and has nothing to do with the weapon upgrade. When you upgrade the armour any part of that units model (indeed all of it including animations) can change. There is no such associated mechanic with weapon upgrades.

Well, I've witnessed these weapon changes in custom battle while only adding the weapon upgrade; with no changes to the armor what so ever. This I have seen with my own eyes, and can be easily duplicated by anyone viewing this thread who has MTW2 on thier computer right now.

Now, it is compleatly possible that what you are trying to say does not in fact argue with what I am saying, but requires an understanding of the internal workings of the game engine on my part. In that case, your futuristic techno-bable is wasted on me, Foot, as I have difficulty understanding how to run Microsoft access; leaving me at quite the loss when it comes to the inticate details of program modification.

I can assure you that there is no known model changes associated with weapon upgrades. You are either mistaken or the modding community is.

Well, I'm a three hour drive from my copy of MTW2, but if you or anyone reading here has got it handy, they can check it themselves. Just set up a custom battle with two identical units (preferably units with easy to see weapon changes, woodsmen and cossak musketeers work well. Teutonic knights work ok, but you have get them to put away the lances first), one with weapon upgrades and one without. The Woodsmens axes should become all fancy and engraved, muskets start looking more like muskets and less like 2x4s and maces change from cans on sticks into flanged maces and morning stars.

I doubt that I am mistaken, I used to spend a lot of time in custom battles putting weapon and armor upgrades in various ammounts onto units just to see how they looked. If I am mistaken, that would mean that I'm likly some kind of crazy, and maybe on psycodelic drugs of some kind.

But I think thats the kind of think I'd notice.

You are in fact correct. I missed it because it was an integral part of the model, unlike armour upgrades where it is text based. It essentially makes weapon upgrades pointless however, as there is no way to control at what point the weapon upgrade occurs. Plus to that is that the weapon upgrades give a hardcoded +6. With such a large bonus it is likely that weapon upgrades will be disabled in EBII.

That actually makes battles and making armies somewhat easier, not having to build armories and upgrade units.
